Has anyone seen this movie? My God, I saw it yesterday, and...well, I can't get it out of my head. For me personally it just hit home in so many ways. Anyone have any thoughts/interpretations/criticism of this piece of art?

Oh yeah man, that final collage of edits and cuts packs such a punch, it's an amazing way to end the movie.
And Ellen Burstyn's acting during her 'scares' and descent into narcotic psychosis left me, quite literally, speechless. She gives one HELL of a performance in this film. Superb. I've had amphetamine 'scares' like the ones she portrayed. The way she acted them, and the skill and vividness with which they were filmed, it blew me away (and dug up some bad memories). Also, I'm a BIG fan of Jennifer Connelly ;) Both for her talent, and her 'talent' :D Now I really need to see Darren Aronofsky's other 'mind flick' 'Pi'. |
You said it all.
Acting was absolutely stunning, and the movie as a whole got to me too. I watched the DVD, including a short "Making of" - recommended!! Brilliant but to me immensely disturbing movie. |

Loved Requiem for a Dream as well, by the way. |
Yeah, I saw Pi too, it was quite a while ago though so I think it's time for a rerun. Loved it as well, main reason why I wanted to see Requiem for a dream (not to keen on graphic drug movies - they give me the creeps :D )

Pi was good but weird. So was Requiem. I liked Requiem, but didn't like it -- and it definately stuck with me. If you want to see a movie much like it, with a hint of comic twist, yet still disturbing as hell, check out "Spun," with J. Schwartzman, Mickey Rourke, Mia Sorvino, John Leguzamo, and Brittney Murphy. It's focus is crystal meth.
Also, for the most real portrayal of an acid trip you will ever see, check out Harvard Man, which is likely the best out of all movies mentioned in this post. |
Requiem for a Dream is an amazing movie, I didn't expect a lot when I started watching but when it was over I was simply stunned. Very disturbed...
