The ending of this movie is a bit confusing. The shoot out scene at the Airport makes you believe it is all part of a Paradox. Then, however, you get the scene on the Airplane...
Any thoughts?

I remember that it all meshed correctly, despite the conundrums. I'd have to watch it again to confirm.

Best I remember, despite efforts to stop the catastrophe, they simply targeted the wrong *cause* of the catastrophe.

Here's my take: The folks who sent Cole back sent him back knowing that he would fail. They wanted the plague to occur because its result is that they hold power -- hence the woman from the future sitting beside the actual plaguebearer and indicating to him that her job is "insurance."

Paul

Great movie, by the way.

This is one of my favourite movies of all time
at the end i do not believe that the people from the future would have wanted Cole to fail, why else would they have even attempted to send him and that other guy back in the first place, i mean living underground they would be stretched for resources why would they have enough to waste on a time travel mission designed to fail.
In the beginning of the movie i also found it strange that there was a lion in the snow but anyway, a great movie.

For the most part I liked the movie for its grit and the dipicted bleakness of what life would be like if humans failed to build resistance to a deadly virus. However, IMO, the greatest weakness/flaw was how the woman therapist threw all her professional and personal boundaries right out the door as she embraced Willis' character and mission. Very unbelievable. Okay, call me a critic!

I would recommend that anyone who enjoyed 12 Monkeys should watch the film that inspired it if they ever get the opportunity - a 1960s French arthouse short called 'La Jetee'. You won't get any action shots or special effects, it's basically a set of black & white still photos with a voiceover, but the story told is what inspired 12 Monkeys, and it is a very haunting film. Well worth a look.
