I hate them...especially ones with psychological horror. (I hope you know what I'm talking about [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) They just freak me out so much that I usually have nightmares [img]tongue.gif[/img] :(

<font color="cyan">I think psycological horrors are the most effective of horror genres. Especially when they don't exactly show the audience what the evil entity/beast/monster etc. really looks like but just the occasional shadow or a quick glimps of it. The ones where there is a lot of blood and gore just don't work for me.

No, I don't like horror movies. I never watch them if I can avoid it.

Most of them are very cheesy too, like the Jason series. There are how many now? 12? And what? 5 jaws and 8 Freddy?

Within 10 mins of the show, one can usually point out who's going to die next. Additionally, I think they've mostly run out of novel ways to kill off characters. What next? A person dies choking on a Tic Tac? ;) </font color>

Im not a horror fan and dont watch them, despite The Shining been my favourite film ever, the thing is I see The Shining as a masterpiece of film in the way its shot and the characters and the actors acting, not because of its shock pieces or supposed scary parts. Also the dark humour in it is hugely satisfying and enjoyable to watch, take the part where Jack is in the toilet with 'Jeevsey' the smirk he has when delivering his line of

"err Mr Grady, you WERE the caretaer here, I saw your photo in the newspaper, you err hacked your wife and kids inta little pieces then blew yer brains out"

is my favourite part in a film ever :D

Even if you don't like most horror movies, you still should see some of the B grade ones. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Killer Clowns From Outer Space, and The Stuff (a killer yogurt) are really good ones. There are a lot more to pick from if you don't mind black and white films. And they're all so silly you don't have to worry about nightmares.

To me, there is nothing better than a good horror film. Unfortunately, as you guys have mentioned, there are not all that many of them. I am totally sick of teenybopper horror (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream etc.) and sequel slasher horror (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street etc.), but when an original and creepy horror film comes out, I'm first in line.

Rent Frailty. You just might not realize the horror until it's too late. Very good flick.

Most horror flicks just suck - the vast majority, in fact. But, when horror is done well, it's amazing. ST Coleridge's essay regarding the "willing suspension of disbelief" was directed more at the gothic genre than anything else, though it has achieved universal usage. The application of this notion to horror/gothic is especially poignant because in order to scare someone you have to get them to "buy into" things that are (usually) FANTASTICAL, i.e. things we all know cannot occur. Asking someone to watch a fantastical drama is one thing - but with horror, the genre does not work if you do not *believe* the underlying assumptions, at least a little bit. So, making the impossible seem plausible is a hurdle so many horror movies cannot jump over.

So, it's quite hard. Because of this I found my Ravenloft campaign the most challenging to run.

My two favorite horror movies are Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing.

Speaking of The Thing, the recent video game of the same name is awesome. Amazingly great graphics and a gripping story line.
