What's the max level you can reach in BG? I'd like to try and get a party all at maximum XP!!!
|
The maximum LEVEL of the characters actually depends what class the are. To become a L10 thief takes a lot less experience than that of a L10 mage.
If you do not have Tales of the Sword coast installed, your experience limit is 89,000 experience per party member. If you have Tales of the Sword Coast installed, the experience limit is raised significantly to 161,000 experience per party member. Getting a party to hit the experience cap isn't actually all that hard, but have fun with it anyhow |
If you get tired of being at the limit, you can always remove the experience point cap so you just keep going and going. I am currently playing a level 10 Paladin at 500,000 XP points.

How do you remove them? And anyway; you keep going up in XP, bud does the character actually become stronger after a surtain level?
I have tales of the sword coast installed... I have the golden pack with both of them; I have just started a new game as a wizard... I have Imoen in my party, but I'de really like to try a solo, if I can resist not taking Minsc!!! |
You need to edit the xpcap.2da file, which limits the amount of xp your characters may earn. My suggestion for BG1/TotSC is to set this number no higher than 250,000; this allows fighters and clerics to attain 9th level (love those 5th-level cleric spells ). However, the final number is up to you.
By the way, I use Near Infinity to edit .2da files. It's a great program for doing so. |
I don't have xpcap.2da file in my C:Programs/BlackIsle/Baldur'sGate folder... Am I doing something rong?
|
Check your Override directory. There are also a few programs out there that will remove it for you.
|
I made a search on my Programs/BlackIsle/ directory... I din't find anything...
|
If you do not have Near Infinity (and by the way, you won't be able to find it through casual looking, it's not an actual present seperate file), then go to the main Ironworks site (not the forum) and go to BG1, then choose downloads or whatever is closest. Look for a download that says something regarding XP Cap Remover or Raiser, and download it. Then run it and follow whatever instructions it gives you.
