How Pathetic Am I When A Film Can Get You Emotionally Attached To A Volleyball?
Last Night I Was Watching Castaway, And When Wilson Floats Off Into The Sea Leaving Tom Hanks Shouting: "WILSON!! I'M SORRY!!!" I Found It Really Sad. I Also Felt Really Pathetic At The Fact I Was Sad About The Fact A Man Had Lost His Volleyball...

It is a tribute to Tom Hanks that we care so much for Wilson! His performance is fantastic, but was that ever in doubt.

The blockbuster made a tribute to wilson by making mini sculptures of wilson

Yes, castaway is a great, though rather depressing film.

I shedded a tear or two when he got lost in the ocean. But how could they do that!?!?!?!?!?!? That was sooooo evil and wrong.

He had to lose Wilson. Wilson was his way of dealing with the lonliness and isolation; once he gets off the island, he no longer needs Wilson. Also, that scene lets you, the viewer, get into the emotional state he himself is in--he has lost his entire life, and now you really feel that loss yourself. Interesting, yes?

Depressing? Not at all. He is able to pick up his life and move on.

One question: do you think he follows her back at the end?

I thought it very sad when he lost "Wilson" but at the same time, necessary in order for him to pull himself together if he was going to survive.

Ever seen "The Bear"? ;) If you haven't, bring a box of Kleenex, I don't care if you are man, woman, or child...if it doesn't make you cry you are just heartless. :D (I saw it when I was in my late 20's with a group of friends who had seen it already but showed it again just to see it make me cry...they all admitted shedding a tear too and they were all older thanme lol.) I remember watching the Bear with my exgirlfriend, we just both sat on the couch, holding each other and both crying our eyes out... sheesh that was a sad movie

I didn't shed a tear for Wilson though... call me heartless
