I read a book from him long ago and enjoyed it - I just can't remember the name of the book. It was something about Africa.

River God and the Seventh Scroll are two of my favourite books . Warlock wasn't as good I didn't think but still enjoyable. I've read some of the Courtenay books too, Birds of Prey, The Lion something-or-other, A Time to Die (?)
