The "Elminster" books are my favourite Forgotten Realms book, just after the "Drizzt" books of course.

Cunningham and Greenwoood both give Salvatore a run for the money when it comes to their characters and how well developed they are.

Elminster has been other peoples book, going by the name Fizban...

Fizban is in the Dragonlance books... eh, what's the name... ah yes, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, isn't it? Err... Warhammer... Elminster in Hell has been out for a few months now, in case you didn't know... *shrug*
