I've just watched the fist episode of the new star trek series, and whilst not being a trekkie, I was appalled by the unsplitting of the infinitive; 'To go bodly' just ain't the same as 'boldly go'. However, I would say this was made up for by the gratuitous 'gel rubbing' scene involving the new Vulcan side kick, and if this sort of thing continues I may become a regular viewer (sad isn't it) - infact I think I'd better go and take a cold shower now...

I like the show myself. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the vulcan

I wasn't planning on liking the show, but after watching a couple of episodes it's not that bad. The Vulcan helps...alot.

The movie/season premier reran last night here (we saw it the first time) and the rub-down scene did seem a bit gratuitous. I'm assuming the directors/writers felt it necessary to compete in today's media audience--but such was never the reason any Trek fan ever watched the shows or movies to begin with! All I can figure is that they thought they could attract new viewers with the hint (!) of the forbidden Vulcan flesh (ooh, naughty! ;) )

Luckily such scenes haven't popped up much elsewhere in the series thus far. Hopefully it won't happen again, but I saw previews for the next five 'all brand new episodes' and there were a few scenes of very close fraternization!
