I've bounced around several of the other boards for a while, but never here until today. I'm looking for a new fantasy series to start, and I stumbled across EG's name here... I get the vibes that his writing is not necessarily well liked here? Why?

Also, could anyone tell me books he's published in the series order? I know of "Making of a mage" but that's a prequel, isn't it? Which one should I start with? WHich was his first?

TIA

(And yes, I've read all of teh Drizzt books and I'm waiting for the Oct release of SoS... I'm just looking to kill some time with AD&D based novels.)

In response to your question...
#1 ) Elminster, the Making of a Mage
#2 ) Elminster in Myth Drannor
#3 ) The Temptation of Elminster
#4 ) Elminster in Hell

The reason that some people, in my own words...feel that Ed does not write well is that he uses alot of women nudity where it is ridiculous to have it.
He also makes Elminster out to be some sorta stud with the ladies, though he is over 1K yrs.
Yet I love the above mentioned series for the story of the life of the most powerful mortal that walks the realms.

Have you read any of the "Band of Four" series? Are they any good?

I have read the first three, and enjoyed them more than I care to admit in front of Memnoch http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

The fourth has just come out as hard-back, but I will be waiting for the paper-back.

I'm with Larry. I really liked the books, just don't tell Memnoch I said that.

Awww, guys, you're allowed to like Ed Greenwood. Let no-one's opinions be suppressed here. I'll just think you have no taste, that's all. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
