I have met Marek and Lothander in the usual spot, by the counting house when you first enter that area. For the quest to progress you have to meet Lothander again somewhere else(I think in the Sorcerous Sundries area) but I don't remember where. I would like to get this quest done so it doesn't bite me when it's most inconvienent. Thanks!

Walk along the west side of the Wide (the big fair in the middle of town).

Well I suppose Six, if you went west for long enough you would eventually reach east. But then east would move to soo.... :D
