Salve

New Try, new Party. On my new Journey through the Sword Coast, I want to try an evil Party.

My good Party consisted of:
Me (Ranger/Cleric)
Minsc
Kivan
Coran
Imoen (dualed to Conjourer)
Dynaheir

So in my evil Party, I want an equal ammount of Firepower. But I'm not familiar with the evil and neutral NPCs. So, can anyone tell me wich of them are specialised in ranged Weapons (Bows prefered)?

Hmmm...

Montaron (halfling F/T), who you meet early in the game, can be a great sniper either with a crossbow or shortbow. He gets the THAC0 of a fighter and thieving skills as well.

Xzar (mage, necromancer I think) comes along with Monty. He's not the best mage in the game but he's Monty's friend so if you want just Montaron you'll have to find a way for Xzar to die. That shouldn't be too hard, even against kobolds.

Kagain is an evil dwarf (F) who is an absolute must for any evil BG1 party. His constitution gives him regenerative capability and he will be your main tank from start to finish. Usually he's on the front lines with a battle axe, but once you find a certain throwing axe he makes an excellent ranged combatant as well.

Edwin is arguably the best single-classed spellcaster in the game, so you'll want to have him along.

There's an evil female fighter named Shar Teel who makes a good backup tank and I believe is strong enough to use composite bows. You may have to put a few points in bows for her to be a decent archer, though.

You can use Branwen as your cleric. She's neutral but since you rescue her from being a statue she'll basically do whatever you want her to. Slings are the obvious choice for her ranged weapon.

Garrick the bard is CN but pretty weak if I recall correctly. He died pretty quick in the game when I took him along.

There are a couple other evil or CN thieves out there (Safana, and the guy that wants you to go and rescue his girlfriend) but I've never used them much. You'd probably only be able to use short bows with them.

That should do it. Here's your party then:

You - Whatever you want (how about an evil bard? that way you can be part rogue and part mage, use bows and wands)
Kagain - tank
Montaron - archer/scout/locksmith
Shar Teel - backup tank and archer
Edwin - primary mage
Branwen - cleric

Alternates:
Xzar instead of Edwin (I can't see why)
Safana or another thief instead of Montaron (ditto)

Have fun!

I like Neomi's suggestions, but with a minor alteration - swap Branwen for Viconia. She'd fit it a little better, I suspect.
My last adventure through BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast was with primarily an evil party and I must say, it was my favourite for fun and roleplaying!

Me (True Neutral Druid)
Kagain
Shar Teel
Safana
Viconia
Edwin

Weapons do not have ability score requirements in BG, but yes, she has a decent dexterity so she is quite good with bows or crossbows. I tend to equip her with a crossbow as I just want to get a single shot off before she enters melee.

DOH! (slaps self on forehead)

Viconia is definitely the obvious choice, I had just forgotten all about her. I usually don't use her in BG1 for some reason, but I almost always take her along in BG2!

@Neomi: That Party sounds good to me.
I will give it a try.

Thanks for helping.

Get Xzar for Edwin because he has better lines, is more entertaining.

Klorox 12-10-2004 04:12 PM

Viconia isa good archer too, becuz she has a high dexterity.

Make that a slinger. ;)

Shar Teel can be bloody good with a bow.

Monty would be the best choice for a thief, as he is part fighter, and with a high dex, is very good with ranged weapons. I would take Xzar as a mage, because Edwin isn't better than Xzar by a great enough margin to justify killing Xzar deliberately (which would be very cheesy indeed).

Viconia is good with a sling, since she has a high dex.

Kagain is a must for an evil party. Give him the Gauntlets of dexterity, and he will have god-like AC, in addition to regenerating and he will be great with a throwing axe.

You've got two fighters, a fighter thief, a cleric and a mage. I won't advise you on what sort of PC to take, since it's best to choose a class based on fun, since you are, after all, playing to enjoy yourself.

If I was playing with the above list of NPCs, I would take a fighter/mage, unless I intended to import to BG2 and play an all evil party, in which case I would take a thief with good str, con and dex(obviously) to be given the assassin kit when imported.
