I've just finished reading the first 2 books of the Counselors and Kings Trilogy: Elaine Cunningham's books on Halruaa.

I'd have to say - not bad! I was a bit sceptical at first, thinking that it would be difficult portraying Halruaa, but she did quite a good job. The first third of The Magehound is quite confusing because not a lot about Halruaan culture is explained, but it grew on me enough to order the second one in (The Floodgate) and that grew on me even more.
