I have not been able to venture to far as of yet, but going into the first area thru the Yawning Portal I have noticed that it is all caverns. My question is how close to the PnP paper are you keeping it. I have been building Undermountian with the toolset and got all the books. I have been attempting to build it to scale according to all the books I currently have and what is available in the toolset and the tilesets that are available online.
This has been a daunting job but well worth it. I currently have my module up on ALFA and has been there for over a year now, and I am still building. anyways Like I asked. How close to the PnP are you keeping it. and also can anyone here make a placable statue for me? I need a certain one made. [ 09-09-2005, 02:01 AM: Message edited by: Ziroc ] |
Well further down there is the desert and we also have number of break away places as well.
Ther person to speak with is Ziroc as he is the DM/owner/creator of EfU. Hope this helps |
I also have all the source books, and the OLD ones as well. Most things are as close as possible, but one cannot make exact maps of Undermountain, when level one would require like 15 20x20 levels alone, so we work on it.
I have been working on EfU since the day NWN was released, and has been growing everyday. I am about to release a monster of a hakpak with my own custom models and content that adds loads of special Undermountain locals. You need to Read "Escape from Undermountain" as well. a FR Novel. Also, I have read nearly every single Forgotten Realms Novel, and have woven many tales into Undermountain from the novels. (Meeting Mirt, ect) and the underground passages from Yawning Portal to Mirts Mansion and Blackstaff Tower. The books only cover down to, what, level 4? We now have 14 HUGE levels, plus each level has break away levels and secret areas. Also, Outside of Waterdeep is opening up. Tradeway, Trollbark Forest, ect.. I have put well over 2000 hours probably or more, dunno. it's been so long now. It's my baby, and It's addictive to play! Ask around here.. I am installing the R.A.T.S system in Undermountain to (Rapid Access Teleport System) as used in the old game "Eye of the Beholder" where much of the game was in Waterdeep's Sewers and then Undermountain. Also played the crappy game "Descent into Undermountain" and took some ideas from it, but mainly going by what I like past level 4+... I'm not anal about being exact. Thats whats cool about PnP, you can shape it around stories you want. It might be cool to have your mod exactly like the books and maps, but is it FUN. Thats the thing you gotta remember. Players don't wanna wade through huge ass levels all day and it being 'level 1'. Players like large levels, but making them too large can make many bored. You gotta have a payoff.. a reward and keep the story/game going. That is what I try to do. Can I download your mod and see exactly how close it is to the manuals and maps? I have yet to see a tileset to do many of those areas on Level 1. BTW, in the new hakpak, I have loads of custom tiles I made for EfU. A totally new entrance (Waterwell) and Tavern. All new, and it looks SO cool. I can't wait to release it. [ 09-09-2005, 01:42 AM: Message edited by: Ziroc ] |
Hmm well me think here.
Level 1 - I used the LOK dungeon tileset. Most areas are 12x12 or 16x16. Level 1 has about 150 areas. Level 2 - This is pretty much the same as level 1 also. I went thru the module PnP and placed the encounters and stuff according to the books. I am also running a script (random encounter) that checks for a random encounter based on the size of the group and group level. then goes to a table to generate the encounter. This is from the DMG book also as close as it can get. Pretty much right now it is a hack and slash. I need to get to a story line or quest type stuff. I also Built Waterdeep this is 40 areas. Got all the streets named and major building placed. So if you know the old PnP maps you cant get lost. Also I made Skullport to, same as Waterdeep. If you know the books then stuff is easy to find. I have been working on some plots and have friends that have done some work also. People like it and have fun with what I have done. Alot say they are impressed with the scale of it. But again, I need to get some story lines or plots done. I would be glad to send you what I have so you can take a look at it. You may also use what you like . Just let me know how to get it to you. You said that you made custome tiles and placables? there is a statue on level 1. it is about 40 feet tall arms out streached and has lightning coming from the hands. Does this ring a bell? if you have it I would love to get that To see the actual module in play it is up on ALFA (alandfaraway.org) and Curtis.ciscofreak.com:5300 (this is down for now). But like I said I can send you what I have. I just love to build. and have learned very little scripting. |
Sounds cool! Yeah, I wish NWN engine was true 3d (walk over a bridge while someone goes under it)
With 3d, I could make some awesome Skullport walkways and catwalks!! Like 4 levels light of catwalks going over a cavern, through walls into the open, nooks, and that huge area where the Skullport "Skulls" overseers go. (big underground temple). I have one area of Waterdeep open (Docks District) and have North,Southwards ready to go soon. I am making a 4x4 tile of Mirts mansion too, it is very cool I am working on Blackstaffs tower too, but it may not make the Hak release. We'll see [ 09-09-2005, 06:14 PM: Message edited by: Ziroc ] |
I think if Waterdeep was in true 3d we'd all be moving in slow motion -laaaaaaaag!
|
I myself would love to see the work you are doing as well, Sheyjin. Due to my complete ignorance of the system and of that particular module, I would be going into it purely from the point of view as a player, not a fellow designer as Ziroc would be.
|
Well I am just waitung for Ziroc to tell me where I can send what I got so he can look at it.
|
How large is your module currently when uncompressed, and how large is it when it is *.Zip'ped up? I know one person who was kind enough to send me his baby and it was less than two megabytes when he sent it to me in *.Zip format (though you may want to go with *.Rar formats instead as they seem to compress better.) Thing was, when unzipped it became a cool nine megabyte module without the need for any specific *.Hak files to go along with it. I truly appreciated that. I have a feeling that you are using at least one *.Hak with yours if not more, as Waterdeep would definitely desire some items and creature events rather specialized.

My EfU is 80mb with no hakpak currently.. amazing. when you zip it, its 18mb I think. awesome compression on haks...
