I've already made my share of characters and turned them into level 40 powerhouses.
So far I have: Kruul: Strengthbuild, sorcerer 1, red dragon disciple 10, fighter 29. His total strengt of 57 turns him into a nice greatsword wielding maniac, does a lot of damage. Pros: High damage and good attack bonus. Cons: Low armor due to no shield. Short Stuff: Attack bonus build, fighter 10, weapon master 28, harper scout 2. Small and nimble he can hit pretty much anything that might oppose him, with his attack bonus of +71/+66/+61/+56 and an armor class of 94, he's close to unstopable. Pros: Very high attack bonus and very good armor class. Cons: Lousy damage if he can't score critical hits and he's voulnerable to magic. Trolli Trollsplitter: Defensive build, fighter 10, dwarven defender 30. Short and bulky, he's pretty much immune to melee damage, not that it matters, he has just short of 1000 hitpoints. Pros: Excellent damage reductions and high amount of hitpoints. Cons: Low attack bonus. Wesh Steel: All round build, cleric 40. Pretty much your standard cleric, nothing too impressive by him, but he'll almost never be found lacking due to his versatility. Pros: Highly versatile, good in booth melee and magic, although can be beaten in both fields. Cons: Boring character, if hammer fails, use harm and a follow up spell to finish them off. Zach (forgot his last name): Build for the finishing blow, paladin 22, champion of Torm 18. Ok fighter character, but not the kind that will impress anyone, was made for the great smiting feat, but due to lack of experience with paladins he ended up with 12 levels too much in that class. Pros: Can do something similar to 250 to 500 damage in one blow and is more than sufficient as a standard melee character. Cons: Hugely flawed, is semi-dependent on magic buffs that the monsters always dispel anyway and is generally not that interesting a character since his strongest feat is only available 3 times a day. But all that is good and fine and isn't really that important in relation to what I want to ask you (just there to give you an impression of what I like to play with). My question to you guys is, what should I make next? I've thought about making an arcane archer, but bows simply don't do enough damage in Undermountain. I've thought about a mage, but let's face it, their armor class and hitpoints stink, they'd get blown away. Another thought is rogues/assassins, but I'm affraid that due to the high amount of sneak resistant beasts in Undermountain, one of these wouldn't get far either. And last but not least, I've thought about a dwarven barbarian hitpoint build, just too see how many hitpoints I can get. So again I ask you, what do you think I should try? [EDIT] PS. I've thought about something more roleplay oriented, but none of you guys play as much as I do and I'd need a ton of new characters for that. :D [/EDIT] [ 08-12-2004, 03:09 PM: Message edited by: StigTC ] |
Try out an arcane build. If you're looking for a challenge try making a Cleric/Wizard.
From what I understand, people think that that combination stinks for some reason. Level them up evenly for a balanced Cleric/Wizard or focus on one side and take the other for support. [ 08-12-2004, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: Neo the Warrior Cat ] |
Made one of those before we went server vault, and from my point of view the class has some clear pros and cons:
Pros: Plenty of spells, Plenty of spells and Plenty of spells. :D Cons: All the spells will suffer by being cast by a lower level caster, you only have 36 quick slots and no pause option. :( [EDIT] It's a shame really, because it would be a totally rocking combo if you just had the time to use it to its' full extend. Stig,
Give the Druid a shot.. or a Druid/Shifter... or even a Ranger combo. Granted the animal companions get munched pretty bad even on level 4, but I find them kinda fun. How about a taraight up level 40 bard, you should be able to sing your enemies to both hevan and hell at the same time Lets see.. I wont even suggest a monk, they seem to have sprouted everywhere all the sudden... hmmm how about a Rogue/Wizard? before we went server vault I had a nice 20/20 R/W and she was pretty damm deadly. If she was caught sneaking.. she would level them with spells, then sneak through the destructon she just wrought. |
I know. Just talking about it really got me considering making one so if you ever see a character named Davram Arundor you'll be seeing a Cleric/Mage.
PS. Took Domains of Magic and Healing. Magic just to duplicate useful mage spells, Healing to get access to Heal earlier and to boost his healing spells. Wait till he hit's epic, I plan to take the Automatic Still Spell feat to it's maximum. Can you say ouch? :D |
How about you make a Drow Ranger that Dual Weilds Scimitars and has a panther he can summon. you can call him Bob. Ohh wait thats already been done. :)
I agree with Teri-sha Illistyn. Go with the druid/shifter. it can be really fun to play. Ask Larry he had one before we went Server vault. Im just having fun playing with my weimic. |
