I have been back to Lord Eltan and recieved the book and was transported to CandleKeep. The Keeper of the Portal attacks me. He and will not take the book and will not talk to me. I cant defeat him with spells or in battle. Anyone have any ideas?

Aurum has a good point. I never heard of him just attacking without provocation. You probably have a bad rep( watch those area effct spells like fireball, they can be rep damaging). He is also one tough motha. I fought him a few times at length but he always got me.
