I just can't wrap my head around it. Players go INTO undermountain, they don't try to escape it (unless, of course, a Duergar shoves a firecracker up your you-know-what or a drow tries to cut off your woo-woo with a rusty meat cleaver!)
*Knock Knock* "Udos zhaun dos phuul wun gaer, rivvil! Doer doeb ghil!!" Uh oh! Gotta go! *eventually the drow catch the Whackmiester and shove a firecracker up his ass* BOOM!!! "Well...the good news is they've found the weapons of ass destruction.... Well, in PNP PC's go in, get scared out of their wits, and then try their best to get out! So that's why.

I must be getting a little rusty on my Dark Elf language... what does your sentence mean? I got something like:
Knock, Knock "__ to know you are in __ surfacer! __ you __!!" |

;) When the final downloaded version is done--nearly too-- you'll see why it's called 'Escape' from Undermountain. But SpiritWarrior has it mostly correct :D
|
Actually according to WOTC archive it loosely translates to : "I know you are in there you filthy surfacer!" with one or two corrections.
|
Ok, I had it mostly correct. I use mostly a combination of first and second edition material. Im not much of a fan of 3rd edition outside of this game.

Uh, there were a few of us that, once the shortcuts were in, would start at the bottom, and fight like hell to get out.

Amen to that.
