erm.. I've got an item in my inventory called Laeral's Tear Necklace, it sells for quite a lot. but it seems to belong to someone called Laeral, shall I sell it or do I need to give it to someone? I can't remember where I found it but probably somewhere near the Cloakwood mines.

Actually, I dont think that is "Laeral's" Tear Necklace you got there. That just the name of the brand of the necklace. You'l find a few of these throughout the game.

You can sell it for 3,000 gold pieces, so it's worth selling ;)

What is a "Laeral," anyway? A big critter that cries diamonds? A type of polar bear? Any old D&Der around that can tell me?

To my amwazement I got one of those in chapter one after being waylaid by a Ogre mage (barely managed to kill him), but damn it was a life saver, got a nice Bastard sword +1 for it...
I didn't think they gave it away so early in the game.

Laeral Silverhand is one of the Seven Sisters, beautiful women who carry part of the power of the goddess of magic Mystra within them. She, personally, is the Lady Mage of Waterdeep, consort of Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun, also Chosen of Mystra.

Laeral's Tear Necklaces, in PnP, can imbue the wearer with ten extra hit points. Why they don't do this in the game is beyond me, as it would be relatively simple to do.

Perhaps because there were more than enough magic items?

Illumina Drathiran'ar 07-23-2004 01:12 PM

None that did that... and certainly not enough magic necklaces in BG1. In Icewind Dale there was the Black Wolf Talisman that gave +10 HP and +1 AC... Just +10 HP would have been enough. *Especially* in BG, where the character is just starting out, Mirror Images not fully developed, Stoneskin not yet ready... Ten hit points could mean the difference between a mage living or dying in one of those annoying bandit ambushes.
