I have the Book from Lord Eltan and was transported to Candlekeep. The keeper of the Portal attacks me. He will not talk to me or take the Book from me. Clangeddin preserve me. Anyone?

Attacks you? Is he red before you speak to him? What is your party's reputation? Have you tried re-loading and charming him on arrival? If you manage to turn him "green" by charming him you should be able to get to the dialogue. You will hae to click on the dialogue button (bottom of screen, looks like a head) manually to speak to him. Keep trying that if re-loading desn't work. Luck.

Yeah, other people have asked that same question here in this post. You probably have a bad rep. or you might have hurt an innocent. Think about what you did, and I hope you have not saved your game after the incident...if everything you try after that fails, let us know and we'll get you in there with cheats or something...

Make sure your reputation is at least average, which i believe starts at 9, or 10

If your rep is the problem, go to a temple and spend up on improving it.
