Well, I got the game quite a while ago and couldn't get it to work. Put it away and now am trying again. It still doesn't work. Everything is fine until the opening scene with the man's voice and the fireplace. It seems like nothing is erased from the screen (ie: the last words on the screen go from the bottom to the top in fainter print). Also, I see nothing except a couple of fires and the faint words.

I have done the things listed in the readme file: anti-aliasing to Ox, everything to linear, no shadows, disable normal mapped terrain, disable water reflections, and 800x600. Still doesn't work.

My computer is running XP, Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB ATI Radeon 9800XT graphics card.

Anybody have any great suggestions before I lose my mind completely? Thanks a lot.

Tried upgrading to the latest drivers for your card? Made sure NWN2 is upgraded to the latest version? My guess, very much my guess, not even an educated opinion, would be that you've got a software issue somewhere, rather than a hardware issue, since your computer seems pretty up to scratch.

Only low point is that you only have 1 GB of RAM, but that should just make the game choppy, not unworking.

So you have artifacts on your screen. I recall your post awhile back. It would be pointless for us to just post suggestions to you since we did that already and it didn't fix. Other than my previously mentioned, checking that Vysnc is on. I would take it to the main NWN2 forums and see if this is an issue with artifacts. Post them some screenshots too and see.

Hail and huzzah! With some combination of new driver and kicking the computer, the game works. I went through the intro just to confirm it. Second question is what settings would you try to increase now that it seems to work? I know there is the autodetect but based on some of the posts here, I just don't trust it. What do you think? Thanks again.

While I am glad that you sorted it, wasn't one of our earliest suggestions to update your driver?
Perhaps a stiff kick can work some magic.

I'd keep anything related to shadows, anti-aliasing, lighting and reflection cranked aaaaaaall the way down. Basically they tend to offer far too little pretty considering how much computer power they chew up.

Go textures high, though, that one tends to be far more noticeable.
