When I built my 939 Athlon 64 system in the Springf of 2006 I installed an X800 GTO video card. I then decided after 2+ years of NWN 1 hiatus to reinstall NWN1 last October. I installed cleanly but just before I got to the loading screen, where you begin to make your character, I was booted out with an error message. I tried several times but continued to be booted out.
So I went to BioWare and it seems that the X800 series cards don't play fair with this game. Why the 800 series is anybody's guess. Even ATI lists it as having issues. It must be the architecture. Anyway, I did another clean install but received the same issue. So I uninstalled the game and waited for several Catalyst Driver updates. Before I attmpt a new driver update does anybody here run NWN1 (not 2) with an 800 series card? Any issues? How is the new Catalyst driver? Thanks. |
About two systems ago I was using an X800 Pro and had absolutely no troubles with it, and I would imagine that you would not face any issues with updating your drivers, in fact I would strongly recommend ALWAYS updating them as soon as new ones come out. New drivers fix more than just game bugs ;)
Can't hurt to give it a try, if they don't work, or they cause a problem, you can always roll back |
Thanks for the reply, Hive. By the way, when I go to my Add/Remove panel to remove the old driver what, besides the display driver, do I need to remove in order to have a clean new driver install?

Depending on how old your drivers are, you might want to remove the catalyst control center and replace it with a newer version ;)

newer isn't always better.
i had to back down to the catalyst driver version from 3/10/2003. game runs great now, tho'. V***V |
