I would judge a boost of 25-50% on my system with same settings. Seems it was bad coding all along. Oh well glad they improved it, I can actually play and not get frustrated now. The camera was changed alot too it's far smoother to work with. This patch doesn't do miracle but it is defo. a good start. Try it if you can't wait for the live release (like me).

Back up saved games (best to just back up the whole NWN 2 folder in default My Documents since it has all your settings saved there) AND if you have any custom UI installed make sure to take 'em out and back 'em up before installing or it won't install.

Remove cutom UI before installing beta then put them back in otherwise it will cause problems when trying to patch custom stuff.

Let me know if you try and notice a difference.

Any bad news coming with the betaness?

SpiritWarrior 11-24-2006 07:04 PM

There's the usual problems installing or nightmare scenarios where people can't play anymore. I just couldn't wait personally... and have no issues yet. Some claim they actually axed the use of certain shaders making the game look worse as a result. No official word yet as to whether they did this or just optimized the way it works etc. I didn't notice a visual hit or anything. Like all beta patches it's "try at your own risk" with no support if something messes up.

Personally, I'm waiting for the official v1.03 patch. Betas have historically caused as many problems as they solved, and are messier to remove. At least with the official v1.03, there will be a critical rebuild.

Darn glad I did not just rush out and get it...this kind of stuff getting fixed will make my future purchase feel like money well spent.

It seems (to me) bug-free so far. Even with official release there is always the nightmare posts about how it messed up their game etc. Even uninstalling NWN 2 is a walk in the park compared to NWN 1. Since I have only 1 DVD here, I copy and paste my cd key from the root folder and opt to keep your saved games + ini stuff and i'm done. I amn't arguing a case to install the beta, since it doesn't matter to me either way, but just pointing out how easy it is to do so.

I think you sold me - I'll be installing it tonight. If I can squeeze another few fps I'll be very happy.

This is the first year I can say "I actually have enough Power in my computer to play any game I want with no slow down what so ever".
So I loaded NWN2 in my old comp and its only a 2.2Ghz Pent 4 with 750 in Ram and OH MY GOD The Lag is insane and thats while NOT on line. I played for about 20 min on the old system and couldn't take it anymore then I read this about the Beta 1.03 and tried it. WOW what a difference, its still no where near the 3.8 Ghz 4Gig Ram Duel core in my new comp but the Game is alot smooooother in the old comp with the beta Patch loaded.
I didn't bother with the Beta Patch in my Duel Core I just never had any real problems from day (1).
I guess that it would be a bit of a Knife in Obsidians Back for me to say they made a game designed just for the Highest of High end Computers with little or no reguard for 90% of our gameing communiety. IS this ATARIs' fault?
For the High end comps its a fantastic fun adventure that really has a feel of the Old Baldur's Gate Team play that flows with fast load times and excelent Graphics. (I did load the first Patch & I click auto patch at every start up)

For the just over the minimun Req PC its a hacky slow glitchy game that can tend to really piss you off with what seems like forever load times just going into a building let alone trying to play thru a whole mission.
The Beta 1.03 patch does help alot but I'll wait until the full 1.03 comes out before loading it on my high end Comp.
I loaded it on the old comp and now the game is at least enjoyable and does help the frame rate enough to turn up the graphics card shader settings enough to see a better view of the world around me.

Make sure to make a copy of the load and unload beta files in case it does cause you problems.

The 1.03 didn't help me out that much actually - I didn't notice that much speed increase on my system (I have everything turned off and am playing at 800x600). What I did like was that magic bags now have a bigger capacity - 24 slots was ridiculous.

One little *bug* I noticed - when a dragon breathes on one of your party, even if they are all scattered , they ALL take damage. Why is that?
