I am going though SoU as a Paladin - I know, big shock - but something is different. A new door appeared in the Lich's temple, and there is a nasty Monk to fight, after which you can get a sword named Holy Avenger (Shades of Carsomyr!) but it doesn't appear to have any bonus. Am I missing something? EDIT - typos

I think it's a magical longsword that casts dispel magic, and it's effective against undead. At least, that's what the GameBanshee guide said. :D

Who needs that when you have the Desert Phoenix? If they're gonna call something Holy Avenger, it oughtta be +4 at the least. I'm using a custom sword from my son: Gram, the Sword of Grief.

When you take that sword to HOTU you can upgrade it (and not just the hit bonus either).

Also consider the power of this sword relative to class level in SOU..

Heck, I found a +1 Greatsword on the same level, and it's better. Yeah, I know you can upgrade it in HotU, but I think the Gemsword is better.

I just got the Holy Avenger in SOU last night and it shows as +5 to me with +1d6 devine damage vs evil, light 20m and cast dispell magic 1/day.
Maybe the one you got is defective, is it still under warrenty?

Much better then the Desert Fury imo.

It's especially fun when you cast Holy Weapon on it for additional +2d6 vs undead. Talk about an undead killing machine

edit-
The manual says it casts Dispell Magic on target on a successful hit, but I've not seen this happen.
