They say in the Instruction book that the monk\assasin is a good combination but I have found that you don't get a sneak attack unarmed. I was wondering if anybody knows where there is a hak file to fix this problem. If there isn't is there a tutorial on how I can create one? I don't know how to create haks but if there isn't one I would be willing to learn how with a tutorial. Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

I've recently been playing as a monk/thief and I certainly get a sneak attack unarmed!
What makes you think you're not getting sneak attacks? |
Well when I should be getting sneak attacks it never says sneak attacks. Maybe I'll make another one...maybe they fixed it with a patch and I didn't realize it.

Ok tried making a monk\assasin and he wasnt getting the sneak attack. Is it just me?
|
assasin's only get a chance of a death attack on the first attack - it doesn't work like a sneak attack (where you get attacks of opportunity and the like). (this is why assasin's are completely worthless imo.)

I would be inclined to stick with the monk/thief combo as Epona mentioned. Plus with HOTU installed sneak attack gets even better, or brutal, depending on which wordplay you prefer.
|
Ah well looks like ScottG has the answer! I've only ever played straightforward monk/rogue characters and don't have the SoU manual which explains the rules for most of the prestige classes so I hadn't looked up the specifics for the assassin.
I am currently mad about monks, and a monk with a sneak attack is unstoppable! |
You don't even have to have levels as a rogue - you can place up to 5d6 of sneak attack in any wearable item. Improving initiative really helps here.
btw, the only place you find accurate info. on death attack is when you class select Assasin and then go into the character sheet, click on the feats tab, click on death attack - then reading the caption. |
I wasn't aware that you could place sneak attack on items. I haven't messed much with the toolset so I guess I'll definitely have to check it out and mess with the item creator there.
btw, I don't think I am big on the assasin anymore. The more I read about them the less I like. I would assume it's much better to just devote the levels to rogue. |
"I would assume it's much better to just devote the levels to rogue."
yup, or sneak attack in an item as I mentioned.. however IF your also interested in a high level character and you still want a level or more of Rogue - then put off the rogue class untill much latter and save up skill points. Then place points in the VERY usefull "use any item" skill. I think 12 points in this skill will allow you to use ANY magic scroll. |
