Well, we're having lots of problems here with SoU and Neverwinter Nights also. Attalus was just playing with his birthday present (SoU) and suddenly after playing for a few hours, the game crashed and a pop up came on the screen that said "point error".
Then, Attalus got angry and uninstalled the game but to no avail. So then he decided to uninstall the entire Neverwinter Nights game but then when he tried to reinstall it... dun dun dun! It wouldn't install.
What's the deal? I'm thinking that it has something to do with a very LARGE crack in the NWN play disk but i'm not sure.
Anyway, i'm not a computer person so if anyone could please tell me what a "point error" is I would greatly appreciate it.

Is it actually 'Point error' or 'Invalid pointer operation?'.

If it's not that then I'd say you got a bad original NWN's CD. I hope you sort it soon. Do post on the official Bioware Techniacal Forums.

Check out the Bioware forums for sure. At the very top of one of the forums is a "sticky" that should deal with the "invalid pointer operation". It's basically a probably with the desktop shortcut to NWN. The sticky has all the details. Check here:

As for the cracked disc, you should be able to get a replacement by contacting customer support. Once you have that taken care, you will actually use the SOU play disc and not the NWN play disc.

Piestrider if you know someone who has a copy of NWN and will let you borrow it. Your code will work with a different disk set. Then do the SOU upgrade and the problem hopefully should be solved.

If and when you do get a new copy make sure to BACK YOUR CD'S UP :D . You are legally allowed to make copies of any game you have bought.

Well, i wish that I could just use the SoU disk as a play disk but it doesn't seem to be working like that. It keeps asking for a NWN play disk in order to use the SoU disk. And I also tried to make a copy of the NWN disk and the SoU disk but to no avail. Aparently both disks are copyrighted and you can't make copies of them. And no, before anyone brings it up, I am NOT going to take a permanent marker to my disks. I think i'll check out that Bioware forum now though.

Well, the Bioware forum was no help whatsoever, just a bunch of things that didn't apply to my situation. So Attalus called bioware and they said there was nothing they could do. I guess its just time to buy another disk. I'm getting really angry with the whole Neverwinter Nights series. When we first bought it we went through FOUR video cards before we could even play the game. And now that we have the SoU we're still running into problems. I guess its time to start avoiding NWN at all costs.
