Hmm, I was wondering. Could someone please list the new monsters available in SoU?

Kobolds
(kobold archers, slingers, slashers, shaman, wizards, healers, on and on and on ....)

Gnolls. (Gnoll archers, slingers, slashers, shaman, wizards, on and on...)

Rats.
Dire Rats.
Dogs.
Wolves.
Winter Wolves.
Bats. (never fought them, but they were there as neutrils, just walk on by..)
Spectres with their annoying level drain touch.
Bandits.

Those half human half scorpian centaur things you've probably seen on the bioware page.

And that's all I've seen. Havn't run into any medusa or gorgons yet. And I'm ticked because in 2E rules there was a protection from petrification spell, but in 3E rules that spell didn't come up on the list.

I'm going to get so stoned, I just know it.

There should be a protection from petrification spell, wiz/sorc lvl 1. It doesn't add up why'd they would add a basilisk and no protection against it.

Alot of the creatures you mention here are already in NWN's or were added by patch at a later time (Rats, Dogs, Wolves, Bandits??). There are 16 new creatures in total and officially the Hobgoblin, Pit-fiend, Formorian, Faerie-Dragon, Psuedo-Dragon, Basilisk, Cockatrice, Gorgon, Medusa, Asabi, Wyrmlings, Sphinx, Manticore, Female-Giants (why..why??) and Stingers..the rest are doubles of existing models.

I agree about the petrification...hey at least you get a fort. save. Maybe in BG having no protection would have been ok but in a solo-playing offline game you're screwed as you can't wait for your cleric to cast flesh to stone..

The weird thing was that "Female Giants" were somewhere along the top of the 'most wanted' list of what gamers would like to see in the add-ons of NWN.. Don't really understand why.

As a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 fan, I am totally disgusted by the way manticores look... They look like overgrown, brown, living potatoes!!!!

LMAO. I also can't get my head a round female Giants for the life of me. Are they now gonna go back and make female Umber Hulks just for the heck of it? It's mental really. Overall I have to say that I'm actually very impressed with SOU though.

The transition between the interlude and chapter 2 involves you getting stoned by a medusa (no saving throw). So it's pretty certain there are no low level ways to defend against petrification since that would wreck your transfer to chapter 2.

I'm still hoping for such a method in chapter 2 itself, because this flesh to stone thing is just too deadly to be allowed to stand. You literally cannot use medusa or gorgons in any campaigns you make because your players would try and lynch you since there's no defence that i can see.

I had a bottle of something that might have helped... can't remember. It seems when all this took place I felt a little helpless myself. (If only she would have been good looking ;) )

OtB, how are you doing btw?

robertthebard 07-20-2003 07:15 PM

Was gonna quote, but too much to sift through to get my point. The effects, in the worlds that i have played, have been temporary, and not quite harmless, but close. no perm dmg for basilisks, or gorgons, or cockatrices, medusa's haven't gotten me yet, so i don't know probably stretched it out for the plot in the module. It tends to add a touch of humour to the situation, especially if you have no way to remove it. Statue boy/girl has become a common phrase on one server that i frequent. As for storyline, could have had you petrified, protection or not, in order to forward the plot. Who knows, but maybe in the next expansion, or, some module developer somewhere will come up with a way to do it. Or to not let it happen, whichever.

The DC on petrify is kinda low though and secondly on normal settings it ain't permanent which is some compensation. Do you know that Greater Spell Mantle does not protect against Flesh to Stone? Ain't that sumfin...
