After completing NWN and 2 expansions in my local internet cafes (helluva time & money lol! :D ) with a plain fighter/barb, i wanna try something cool called Red Dragon Disciple.
OK, I understand that I need to be a sorceror. (DUH!!!!) But since it seems to help a fighter/sorceror variant more than a pure sorceror, can anyone help me with lvl allocation between fighter lvls and sorceror lvls? Or do you guys have any other good multiclass combos? Thanks in advance. |
It works with a bard as well. I played a level 10 RDD and rest bard in HotU and he got pretty powerful.
I think you don't want to take too many levels of fighter since it takes away from your spellcasting powers. Now IIRC fighters get a new feat every other level (taking in account bonus feats) so you want to stop when you've just taken such a feats since the next level is a waste. Depending on what kind of fighter you want you can spend a couple of levels of it, like if you only want to use the proficiencies only take one level. If you want more feats get others but be careful that you will be more sorceror |
You only need one level of either Sorcerer or Bard, as well as 8 ranks in Lore, to become a RDD. There's not much in RDD that benefits a spellcaster much, so most builds with this class are melee oriented. The +8 bonus to strength really says it all. As a matter of fact, a Bard benefits much more from becomming a RDD than a Sorcerer.
A Fighter/Bard/RDD is a very powerful combo. The Fighters bonus feats, Weapon Specialization, and Attack Bonus combined with the RDD's strength bonus and immunities as well as the Bards songs and buffing spells makes for some serious melee. Add Devastating Critical to the mix and you're set for a day of mayhem. [ 07-21-2004, 04:18 PM: Message edited by: Stratos ] |
So, A fighter/bard/RDD is a great combo.
But what about lvl allocation? I do know I want 10 lvls of RDD but what about the rest? F8/B12? F4/B16? Anything else? |
This depends on the amount of spell casting you want.
Obviously if you want more spell power then you will have more levels as a Bard. If you want more fighting capability then you'll want more levels as a fighter In any event, I would make sure you have at least 4 levels as a fighter. I would also take my first level as a Bard (for the skill points). Additionally I'd take at least one more level as a Bard at character level 16+ so that you can plow-in skill points into Tumble without the skill point penalty (to a native 20 points for a +4 to AC) and Use Magic Device (to a minimum of 10 points). The fighter should also be planned to receive weapon specialization in what ever weapon you like best (you'll need to have the feat weapon focus in that weapon AND have the appropriate base attack, AND you'll need to have a feat selection at the point you can choose weapon specialization). I personally like at least enough levels of Bard to cast wounding whispers - which can help hurt really difficult opponents where you might not otherwise be able to. |
