I am about to enter the Host Tower and would like to save my character. I've been checking out some of the mods available and noticed that many have recommendations regarding character levels suitable for a particular mod. I saved around level 5 or so and want to save again around now, at level 12. The problem is, when I save, I simply get a message that the save was completed and no option to name the file or save to a particular place. When I look through the files, the only place I can find any files with my character's name is in the "localvault" folder and these are .bic files. Is this where character saves occur? Ultimately, I would like to keep my save at level 5 and have another one for now, etc. so I was thinking I need to rename the file so it doesn't overwrite. Any ideas? Thanks.

To save your game you go to the menu save, click a new save or the old one. Then you can give a name to it. This will save the progress in the module you're playing at the moment.

If you want to save your character you need to use the export character option, which is in the menu as well. Your character will be saved as it is at that moment and it will be in your localvault folder. If you start a new module you can choose to create a new character or use an existing one. If you choose to use an existing you can see your exported characters there.

.bic files are compressed files the game uses to store info in.You don't need to rename those. I think exports are level-based but it might be possible that it saves everything you export no matter the level.

As philip said, simply press the 'Save Character' on the menu screen and the character will be saved(exported) exactly as it is; items, level etc.

All saved characters ends up in your 'Local Vault' folder and are called .bic files. You don't need to worry about overwriting any files while saving characters, a new file is simply created every time you save a character. I don't know exactly how these are named, but I assume there's simply a number after the name of the character, example: Bob001.bic , Bob002.bic etc.

On the list where you choose which character to use in a new module, there will be a parenthesis with numbers within them after the character name if you have saved that character and how many times( characters are automatically saved after you create them).

Exactly what I needed to know.
Thanks.
