Can anyone tell me where the tree is I have found the Spirit of the trees and the altar in the grove but do not know whether this is the right thing as placing the antidote on the altar does nothing

Have you talked to the Spirit yet? It attacks you when it sees you but should calm down if you beat it. Note: Don't kill it! Don't let a spell, summon, henchman or similar kill it either. When it's beaten it will stop to attack you and say something about wanting to talk to you instead.

Go back and talk to the "spirit"
