or its functional equivilant...

There I am (having finshed just about all quests in chp. one) going back and looting all the chests that I didn't open (to get good stuff), when what do I pull out of a chest but a Kukri that I can't identify.

Now see, the odd thing is that I have 18 in lore do to "wielding" certain rapiers while wearing certain rings. Of course 18 in lore = 30,000 gp in value. So I say to myself: "hmmm, must be some other reason why I can't identify this Kukri"...but I save the game anyway and recall back to get it identified by Aribeth. (I didn't have any lore potions on me at the time because I didn't think I'd need them.)

So I get the thing identified and low and behold what was it? The Cutting Star!!!!! One of the most powerfull weapons in the game and also one of the most expensive. I could have sworn this was only a character level 14 variable chest item and here the thing pops-up at character level 9!

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I have gotten some pretty neat equipment in chest but nothing extraordinary. Seems that you were very lucky to find this kukri.

What's the stat of the weapon? Is it a +4 weapon?

Legolas 09-14-2003 07:29 AM

The Cutting Star:

These blades are occasionally brought to civilization by adventurers, along with tales of ruined temples and the gods of old. Likely this weapon fell under the domain of a sun- or star-worshipping sect, and while possibly far-reaching in their day, no official record detailing their practices has survived.

Damage Bonus: Fire 1d6 Damage
Enhancement Bonus +2
On Hit: Blindness DC=14 25% / 3 Rounds

Total Cost: 46096
Required Lore: 20
Required Level: 15

I myself have either not been so fortunate, or did not recognise it when I was. As far as popping up at lvl 9 is concerned, chests do on average spawn an amount of treasure befitting your level. But, there is always a chance of your getting something more or less. In your case I'd say the odds were about one in a million, but then one-in-a-million chances tend to work out nine times out of ten

I probably haven't had such a great experience, but in one of the first chapters I found the Armor of Comfort and for the next several chapter, every other armor I came across, just didn't beat the Armor of comfort, until finally, I found a Full Plate +3 AND White Dragon Armor near the end of the 2nd chapter or the beginning of the 3rd Chapter.

Is this normal? LOL

I've often found that when you start getting a paticular item that the item will re-occur again and again (which is great for the golden circlet at 9'th level because you can sell them for over 9k a pop).

It could be because I'm really "working" the inventory of ALL chests this time (in an effort to accumulate a large sum of money to export a character over to SOU to purchase several certain EXPENSIVE items).

Well, Golden Circlets and Thayvan Circlets I have gotten alot of. You can sell them for alot of money but there really isn't much I feel a need to buy.

Also known as my "Diablo" style of play LOL. In that game, I searched every square inch of every level, searched and killed every person, and looked at every item I could buy- my charatcer had about the 2nd best of everything in the game, not to mention the ground was littered with items and gold- so many items, it got to a point where I couldn't put any more down.

*Shudders*

Then came... hacks- my Diablo character was soon obsolete, people hacked all the best items, got "inviciblity" hacks, and has been a down spiral ever since. Don't play no more since theres no point. Don't buy other Diablo versions, since they're just hacked. Friends say "oh but your account can be deleted"- I say, so what? Make another one. Dont get caught in the first place. Its way to easy to hack blizzard games...

Thank goodness for a nice game like NWN :D

Shall I tell you about Gram, the Sword of Grief? :D

OK the reasons for working the chests, bearing in mind that this particular character is a rogue with the "use any item" ability.
Lesser Mace of Disruption - Slay Undead (a true bane to rogue attacks)
Club of Smiting - Slay Constructs (as bad or worse than undead for rogues)
Twin Fists of Fire - gloves that create a twin (a double) once a day
Cloak of Greater Sanctuary - spell greater sanctuary once a day
Boots of the Shifting Sands - haste, -1 to dex., spell earthquake once a day (at full power)
Magic Electrifier - recharges chargless magical items

Consider that the Boots alone cost over 100k with precious little means to purchase them within SOU when they are offered for sale.

Best I did was Boots Of Speed, which I love greatly.
