Hi all,

here is the thing : I've played BG for quite some time now wthout any problems or crashes and have gotten to cloakwood when I decided I didn't like the way my party was turning out so I started anew with a completely different character and plan. But now when I try to enter a lot of buildings like plain houses or Thunderhammers smitty, the game chrashes back to the desktop and gives an error message like :

Quote:

Assertion failed in D:... at line 1707
Programmer says :" request for DEV failed".
or something like that. HAs anyone ever had this problem before and if so, cleared it up? By the way, I'm running BG 1 with TotSC and the international patch installed.

Thanks

My only suggestion is to go to interplay.com, and look under BG1 there. They give a good list of a bunch of the errors that might happen, and also tells how to fix them.

Hope i helped!

Just a thought, those Assertion Errors are nearly always due to problems reading the CD. Do you have old disks or a worn out CD player? You may be better off with a full install if you have the space. I know I played BG so often that I wore out several CD players, it's that kind of game.

I may be on the wrong track but good luck anyway.

Norin, what kind of computer are you running the game on?

Norin 12-24-2003 08:43 AM

I'm running it on a 533 mgh Athlon computer with 312 MB Ram and 4 Gigabyte of memory. It's a pretty old machin and so is my game so maybe Midget Gems is right, but what am I supposed to do now? Buy the game again or buy a new CD player? That's just wrong, if the game messes up your cd player, there should be a warning on the box...

Small Green Imp, thanks for your kind reply. I was really buggered about this whole thing but your kind words have made my day. Thank you sir, I am forever in your debt. Twat.

dont worry, Im pretty sure your CD drive is fine, have u tried cleaning the discs? Maybe Andrewas would know how to fix this, pm him or something.

Norin 12-24-2003 10:03 AM

And with what should I clean the disks? Just a dry, clean piece of cloth? I really only use the PC to game and for MSN Messenger so I know jack about even the simplest technicalities...

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-24-2003 10:29 AM

Use a soft, dry, clean cloth and clean from the cneter outwards.

Cleaning with a circular motion will leave scratches along the trac and kill performance
