I want to try going through this game solo, using a fighter/thief. Since I'm going solo, my character will easily reach the XP Cap, so I want to install the XP Cap remover. I installed the Gruntware one, and then I put it into my BG1 directory. I open it from there, and when I hit start, I get an error saying that the program cannot be found to patch. I guess I put it in the wrong folder or something, but the readme doesn't say which folder to put it in. It didn't work in the override folder either, unfortunately. So, can anyone direct me to a different XP Cap remover that I can install? Or at least tell me which folder to put the Gruntware Cap Remover in?

Edit: BTW, ToTSC isn't installed. I've done a bit of searching and they all say to stick it in my Override folder, but when I put it there, it appears as a folder in there. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I managed to get an XP cap that worked (from team BG), but now that I want to dual class my fighter, it doesn't work. I hit dual class, but all options except specialist mage are dimmed. I click on that, and all the options there are dimmed too. What's wrong?

Are you sure you meet the dual-classing requirements? You need to be at least level 2, have a score of at least 15 in your class' required ability, and at least 18 in your second class' required ability. In this case, you would need 15 STR and 18 INT.

Oh, no wonder, I don't have 18 intell.

Well how much INT do u have? If you have say 17 then just get a Tome.

That would be fine, as only 17 INT are required to dual to mage,
safly you want to dual to thief so what you need is:
</font>
  • to be human</font>
  • to be lvl2 or higher</font>
  • not to be of lawful alignment (would conflict with thief class)</font>
  • 15 Strenght</font>
  • 17 Dexterity</font>
The tomes will be found fairly late in the game, so I hope you already got 17 DEX.

I am using an imported character from previous games (i've imported this character like 10 times), so he's got 24 strength. But I've always given the tome for dexterity (I believe it's the one that you find underground in CK) to Imoen since she has always been my thief. If I use the gloves for the 18 dexterity, will I still be able to go to thief, or does it correspond with natural stats. I'd guess natural stats though. And also, intelligence doesn't affect dual classing to a thief then? Just 15 strength (which I have), and 17 dexterity?

Not to sound pompous, but it looks like some people need to read the FAQ and/or the Dualclassing chapter of Volothamp's Comeuppance again.

I've never read it on your site...I'm too lazy :D . I'll check it out now anyway...

Edit: I read it, nice explanation, Six ;) . Anyway, now I'm having a small dilema. I can't figure out what to do about dual classing to thief. I have the 15 strength, but my dexterity is too low. By the time I acquire the tome to raise my dexterity high enough to join thief, my fighter will be too far. he's already at level 8, so he's be much farther by the time I get that tome. If I dual class to thief then, it's not likely that I'd get back my fighter abilities by the time I finish the game. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Do you think a solo fighter can go through the game (won't be able to disarm traps, can't open most chests, can't dispel magic, etc)?

Since you say you got the EXP cap remover to work, your EXP shouldn't be a problem. For a player who's "exported this character like 10 times," as you say, you should know the game well enough to be able to blitz your way to the Dex Tome with only the bare minimum of fuss. I have had speed-runs where my PC (Fighter) hit the Bandit Camp when he was still Level 1.

By the same token, you should have all the enemies memorized, the locations of important items on the back of your hand, the positions and types of all of the Traps at the tip of your tongue. So, yes, a Solo Fighter can go through the game.

And Thieves can't Dispel Magic either.
