There is a treasure chest in the jail of Helms Hold in the end of Chapter one that I can not open! It is immune to physical and magical spells, and I can not find a key. Has anyone opened this chest, if so, How?

I had a lockpick +10 and my fighter (just) survived the trap damage.

It contains a random magic treasure - nothing you can't live without.

I suggest using weapons that do extra damage on chests you are not able to open otherwise. Something like a cold or electrical based weapon. I also found that by using a ranged weapon you could avoid the traps. For example, my monk carries a crossbow and some electrical bolts; every time I hit a chest it dose at least 1 damage.

Yeah, there are a few of those chests throughout the game. Elemental damage does not work on them and physical damage is capped at 5 for some reason. I've never gotten into them but you would think that there would be something more than just a minor magical treasure.

That chest has very high DC roll and not in ANY of my games any thieves with me had their skill so high as to open it. Tomi is useless and I personally do not play rogues. Neither can you get ANY weapons at that stage, which can damage that chest. Even if you had Improved Power Attack, you couldn't damage it with the weapons you get in Chapter 1. I never could, all attacks were futile.

When you play rogue yourself, then you may get the skill high enough to open it. Otherwise, you just will miss it and cannot open it. Not that there's anything of real value in it, so no worries.

And sure, when you play through the game again with high(er) level char with better gear/skills, it's easier indeed.

what i hate is braving a trap doing me 100 damage and 100+ to my henchman and then hacking up a chest with lots of physical resistance so that i can only hit it with a critical with improved power attack mode on and THEN only finding say 50 gold or some crappy item, BAH!
