I am thinking of buying NWN. I have been a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate series, but I'm reluctant to try NWN. Is the game as good as the Baldur's gate series, and is the new 3d engine decent? thanks in advance for the advice.

The game engine is very nice. Many have said that they didn't like the included adventure. Personally I enjoyed it. Considering all the mods out there for download though (1500 + at last count) you can play plenty and never touch the included adventure. Not to mention the online play and the fact you can develope your own adventures. I would say yes it is worth it. But, that's just my opinion.

I would buy it. Check to make sure your hardware will support it. Also look at the new collectors version that just released. That is my two cents.

so far i havent liked the included adventure much but when i had a look at the toolset the possiblities suddenly become endless and thats where im likely to spend my time, baldurs gate has a better plot and main adventure and i prefer having a good party of characters too but nwn does have some great locations and graphics and you can spend alot more time improving your main character too so id say so get it, esp if your the creative type cos that toolset could literally give you months or years of creation with a very powerful creation engine.

everyone here get ready for my first mod (despite me only being level 4 in the game heh ) once i figure out fully these scripts etc

For God's sake, YES.

Buy the game, it's great....for all the above reasons.

Just make sure your system can run it.

main quest is growing on me but autosave doesnt kick in enough so im frequently having to backtrack loads cos some trap caught me unawares which is very frustrating, i normally save regularly but even thats not enough in this game :( still things are getting interesting and its giving me good ideas for making my own mods

Reserved "yes." Really, the game was only half-baked coming out of the oven. Needs some work in single-player. Too many 3e things not handled quite right. Rangers not quite right (too powerful). (A much better 3e conversion was done with Icewind Dale II.)

Very confusing toolset. Requires way too much effort. Random maps are butt-ugly. There's more criticism.

Is it worth the $50? Yeah... There are some very, very good mods out there. I think the modding community will make this game more viable than it would have been stand-alone.

If you really liked baldur's gate then i'd recommend you to get IceWind Dale 2 instead. It's using the same 3rd edition rule as NWN and everything is just the same as BG. (Plz forgive me as i'm not really a very big fan of NWN, and yes, i got and tried the game already.)

erm the toolset isnt confusing its damned good, the only confusing bit is the obligatory scripts which are always hard to figure, but as construction sets go its the most intuitive i have used, within 2 hours i had 3 fully populated levels and had played it through (or tried i kept dying to my own creatures ) if you find it confusing then your probably not cut out for level design, you want a confusing editor try the quake3 level editor, its an absolute nightmare.

and yeah baldurs gate i prefer i must admit to the actual game and i want to play icewind dale as well but get both on my wishlist atm (When i get round to buying em ) is bg2, icewind dale, icewind dale2 , i played through morrowind & bg1 recently so nwn i need to complete then buy those and play em.

yeah i must agree with most of you all, NWN SinglePlayer Story it sucks, it dosen't motivate us as BG :( , but yet of course the Multiplayer and the Dmc are cool ...

As for the toolset at first i thougth it was just endless and awsome but after 5 days no way to much restricted to our own unique creation, too bad, but i must agree with Grungi, the Scripts are the only hard part of it, it just like "C" of course programing, not that hard? :D

Of course the 3DS, but greater if we could shape the terrain (didn't i said this earlier???). :D

But if you want my opinion, defenetilly buy it...
