Heres what ya do to get CUSTOM npc portraits !!
Step #1 open the "source" file in the NWN mail file.

step#2 COPY the "portraits.2da" file into another location.

step#3 go to the copied "portrate.2da" and open it with notepad. You should see something like this:

1....dw_f_o1_.....1.....0.....*****.....*****

Step #4 scroll to the bottom of the list. It should be #520 something and next to the number it should say "rakshasa"

Step #5 Now we begin adding portraits!! You have to put something in each line or the game will crash!! All you do is follow the pattern from above.

IE:..525...rakshasa_...4...9....******.....******
.....526...portrate...1...0....******.....******<---here is what is added to the bottom!!

Where I put in "portrate" you will put in the name of the portrate you want to add.

Step #6 copy all of the portrates into the over ride folder.Next make a HAK pak and put your modified .2da folder into it.You can make HAK paks with a tool in the NWtools folder. Put the created HAK pak into your HAK folder.

step #7 make a back up of your original "portrate.2da" from the source folder and then replace the one in the source folder with your new one. The back up is just incase something goes wrong.

Step #8 open up the NWN toolset, create an NPC and enjoy the plethora of new faces you can add to them now!!

additional info!! read this before you start doing anything!!!

your original portrate files have to be named in a certain format in order for them to work. The original .tga files should be names as such: "po_filename_h.tga" just without the quotes. THe " h " is the size indicator and will be changed when nameing the 5 portrates needed.

The things in the .2dafile also have to go in a certain order. Each entry goes in a seperate collum BUT the names for the collum arent given in the .2da file. I will put them here to make things a little easier to understand.

ID#.....BaseResRef.....sex.....race.....inanimate. ...plot....gore<-collum names
1...........dw_f_o1_.........1.......0.........*** **.......0........*****

ID# is just the number of the portrate. Adding new entrys to the bottom is just the easiest way to do it.

BaseResRef is the portrate name. When you put in the new portrate name leave off the "po_" and the size part. you also only have to put in ONE refrence to it. Not one for each of the 5 portrate pics.

sex is either male female or none and will determine what sex the portate is displayed under. Male=0 female=1 none=4

race is which race the portrate will be displayed under. race numbers are:0=dwarf ,1=elf ,2=gnome ,3=halfling ,5=orc ,6=human. 4 IS NOT USED!
