What does Enchanment Bonuses mean or do for a weapon?

An enchantment bonus adds its modifier to both attack roll and damage, and has an influence on whether it can penetrate the defense of creatures with damage reduction ability.

For example, if a sword has an enchantment bonus +3, then the +3 is used in both the attack roll (the old "to hit" roll) and also to the damage roll.

With respect to creatures with damage reduction, it means that it can ignore damage reduction from creatures that have damage reduction to +3 or less weapons.

To explain damage reduction, if a creature has damage reduction of +3/15 pts for example, it means that any attack with less than a weapon of +3 enchantment will have the first 15 pts of damage per hit nullified (so if you hit it with a +1 enchantment weapon and did 20 pts of damage then only 5 points of damage went through). BUT if you hit it with a +3 enchantment weapon and did 20 pts of damage then all 20 pts of your damage will go through.

Make sense?
