Okay, it's pretty obvious what actions change your character more towards good or evil (not accepting rewards, threatening people, etc.). But what actions can you do that affect your law or chaos rating? I have yet to see this change at all in any of my games.

As far as I can tell the law/chaos spectrum doesn't change at all. Which is a shame really.

I was hoping that was not the answer, but I am afraid you are right. I've played through once already, and could find nothing to change it. :( I was just hoping I was wrong...

i'm not surprised.

the only game that i have enjoyed where your actions directly affected and changed your alignment was Planescape Torment. i thot it was implemented very well.

I agree. I guess it was too much to ask to simply rate some of the options law or chaos like they do with the good or evil. I just don't think it would be that hard to do if you have the good/evil thing worked out.

Maybe a mod could be made that could change this. If it is possible I think it would be worth the trouble. Doesn't the manual say something about alignment changes. I know it says that if you become lawful with a barbarian that you can no longer advance in levels as a barbarian. It seems to me that they meant to make it possble to change.

I think they left the door open for change, but did not bother to put it in the solo adventure that came with the game. Maybe some of the modules that are coming out will have that feature.

The alignment restrictions for the character classes are:

Barbarian: any non-lawful
Bard: any non-lawful
Cleric: n/a
Druid: at least partially neutral (i.e. NG, LN, N, CN, NE)
Fighter: n/a
Monk: any lawful
Paladin: LG (of course)
Rangers: n/a (big change from other editions)
Rogues: n/a
Sorcerers: n/a
Wizards: n/a

Any character whose alignment changes to one restricted for their class can no longer gain levels in that class until their alignment changes back to an acceptable one for the class. That's part of the reason I would like to see the changes in law/chaos. It should be a factor for a paladin to both uphold law and promote good. A barbarian following the rules too much might have problems. That one little change would make things a lot more interesting.

Id say it is probably changeable... it would be changeable with the scriptqizard reasonable easily... so if you wanted to add in chaos/law chages in the game just load up the toolset and change them where you want to... but then you have to change a few area transitions etc. etc.
