So all you people out there, what do you pefer Ranged weapons(i.e. Bows) Melee Weapons(i.e.Swords)or maybe even spells(i.e. lightning) or just dont you know?

im a mage so spells!!! but i rely heavily on my trusty crossbow an knife when need too!

As a fighter - I use melee-weapoms

But I switch to missile weapons when I can take advantage of the terrain.

well, im a sorceror, and an elf. i use a composite longbow, and a rapier. i will use arrows for a bit, because i bought a very large quantity of piercing, fire, acid, ice, and electric arrows. i mostly use them for chests and the like, so i dont waste my spells. they are also great when fighting multiple enemies. my henchman (red tiger), my panther, and my skeleton chieftain take care of all of the melee fighting, and i plug away with arrows. if i find myself in the front, i just use my rapier, and have a stoneskin in place all the time anyway. with a rapier that dazes 75% of the time, i dont have too much trouble. once i get tensers transformation, i will be unstopable anyway. so i say magic, then fall back on ranged, then melee if all else fails.

Being a ranger, I would prefer to use a bow, just because that's what rangers should do. But I find it's too difficult to kill most monsters with a bow, even calling shot and all. And magic arrows are very expensive and I never have enough money. So I melee, dual-wielding.

I use bow when the enemy is far away and turn to melee when the enemy is near.

Melee. Just cause I'm a paladin and it seems right :)

I voted for melee, though I would prefer to use ranged. Why? Because you will usually only get off 1-2 rounds worth of shots with the ranged weapon before the opponent closes to melee. If they are weak opponents, then you can take them out before they close. Otherwise, many times you're going to be stuck killing them in melee anyway. And if they are weak, and you have the feat Cleave (a favorite among many), it actually becomes advantageous to fight in melee.

In other words, it depends on the terrain. If I have a clear shot to the enemy where I know they can't close in time, I use ranged. Otherwise, I engage in melee.

I prefer melee to ranged. Most monsters can't be killed with shooting only anyway. Especially now with my current character- fighter, duel wielding, permanently hasted, cleave. Nuff said.
