If anyone has any questions of any kind in regards to alignment please leave a post in this room, and ill try to answer your questions as i have a huge interest in what drives people to do what they do based under an alignment structure....everyone you meet can indeed be put in to an alignment group....

Ok - here comes one ...
If you play a character solely with class(es) where alignment doesn´t matter - i.e. a mage/rogue - what are the consequences in NWN of a changing alignment ??? Let´s your alignment changes from Chaotic (50) / Neutral (50) to Chaotic (10) / Neutral (90) because of your deeds - do I have to worry ;) ???

It's easy to change the Good/Evil scale of the alignment (simply refuse rewards or attack folks that don't give you enough).
But, what changes your Law/Chaos alignment?

The law/Chaos alignment is how you character behaves in the world he inhabits. a rouge cannot ever be lawful because lawful people despise those who steal. A good rouge can be neutral good, as he steals for those who are needy, yet he still steals which is wrong. therefore not lawful.
Lawful characters believe in law that benifits others.
Neutral characters also believe in law that benifits others, yet they do not often carry them out in the correct way.
Chaotic characters dont really care about law, but will do what THEY believe is correct.(Chaotics are usually selfish, and un-reliable)

hope this clears a few things up.

Not really. You didn't give any examples on HOW to change Law/Chaos, only a description of who can and cannot have what...
Don't mean to be a pain, but I'm really curious about how to change this part of my alignment...

Lawfulness does not imply one abhors stealing that is absurd...

Lawfullness implies one follows a structured code, such as the head of a thieves guild, a devil, the question is not obeying the law but what set of laws are obeyed.

Besides have you ever heard the term "Honor amoung thieves."?

Most assasins are lawfull evil.
Most rogues are lawfull to neutral evil.
( in this sense evil implies greed a ruthless pursuit of wealth )
Most wizards are lawfull( this strict and rigorous studing finds this temperment most benificial ).

Hope that helps...

By the way

the most obvious way to change lawfull//chaotic aspect of your alignment is by taking on a task such and finding an item for a reward and desciding to keep it.. this is not nessiarily good or evil
it is just not doing what you agreed to do.

Another example would be taking a quest and not doing it.
Law is both a social and personal code where as chaos is a lack thereof.

In this context i dont agree. When a characeter is reffered to as lawfull, it means that he completely obeys a specific code of conduct to which everyone (and by that i mean player-characters, or inhabitants of a particular country) is meant to abide by. Just because you follow a particular set of rules personnel to yourself doesnt neccesarily mean that those rules are consistent with the "law".
How could you ever define what is lawfull and unlawfull, if what is seen as against the law for one person isn't for another, i.e. there is no standard.
If a person has a code of conduct not entirely consistent with the law they are therefore neutral/unlawfull
If a person has no set of rules or ethics which he obeys he is chaotic.

Everyone just seems to keep explaining what these roles are, I know what they are but I can't seem to change them. Good and evil is easy to change but law, chaotic, and neutral seem almost impossible to change in the game. I have tried everything that magnetism has suggested and still nothing has changed about my neutral evil character. I continously do acts of evil killing almost everyone that is killable in the game. I have quests that I said I would do that I haven't. I have also kept many quest item instead of giving them for reward. I am very curious as to what exactly changes these values. Does anyone know how?

Gedd 07-19-2002 04:12 AM

I have heard that stealing from chests in really obvious places (like shops or bars) can change your lawfullness, as well as pickpocketing.
Maybe try pickpocketing or evening attacking some guards - that would probably do it. I dont think keeping quest items are going to change anything as you just never complete the quest - it's as if you never got the quest in the first place.
