So anyway, you find that sphere that you can stick in the portal, and it says that it has a 'violent reaction', but its still spitting out imps and succubi. How do i get it to stop? And whats the point of the thing anyway?

No a special piece - IIRC it is on the dead wizards body (the former owner) - he is (was?) in a nearby room
