So what do you suggest?

I'm going to play a character who is undetermined at this point...(I just can't decide)...

I've played the initital sequence several times with several different character types, so should I spend alot of time getting it "exactly right", or go with the flow?

Use suggested?

Devote much time to specializing?

Anyway I do it, it looks like I'll have a blast!

Suggestions?

I think you need to tell us a little more about your preferences. Virtually any character type you can imagine is somehow creatable and feasable to play the game with (well, except maybe a dedicated pacifist).

Going with the flow is probably a good way to get started... you can always restart if you don't like it. Unlike earlier of editions of D&D, you won't be penalized for early bad decisions, even though it might require you to think creatively to take advantage of your character.

just pick a class and play. if you own it, you can try every character combination imaginable. well, if your stats and alignment allow it that is. i played a sorceror, but messed up my save, so i had to start over. i still have the 15th level sorceror, but i tried to play him through again, and remembered, the hirelings will still be level 5-8 or so. so i started completely from scratch as an elven sorceror. tensars transformation, haste, mage armor, and greater stoneskin make for and UNSTOPPABLE warrior. heh, man sorcerors are fun, heh.

Don't think too much on it Ron, just create a character that you like. I'm sure the game is designed for all types to be able to get through the game, even if you have odd stats. Plus there are items in the game which helps certain stats, and you also can add stats when leveling up (every 4th LevelUP?). So just create the dang thing and get going dude!
