Just out of curiosity, how many ppl here Multi Class?

Half of the fun of NWN is customization. I believe that multi-classing gives you access to character creation that can make for a very memorable character. I used one of the pre-rolled characters to start off, but have been adding my own ideas where I want him to go. My character is the Ranger. Not just any Ranger mind you, but a multi-classed Ranger/Thief. As a spark of fun, I added in some spell casting abilities to get him prepped up for a possible tri-class. Not sure yet. I was a little confused at first how my first level thief couldn't pick locks or disarm traps, but after adding those abilities, am quite pleased (since I started him as a Ranger first, I was given sparse beginnings as a thief). Since the Ranger already had some thieving capabilities (stealth), I didn't have to spend points there. I added the use magic skill as well so that I could cast from scrolls (thief ability). Since the abilities are so close together (He's 3rd level Ranger/2nd level thief), it's almost like having an elvish Ranger/Thief, but as a human. Pretty cool. As for level advancement, it hasn't seemed that fast for me, but then, I am going up 2 levels simultaneously. It takes a bit longer. Now if only my henchman wouldn't keep dying and I could use the gold on items instead of teleporting . . . LOL

proud to say

NO

besides it seems most people wanna dual with rogues or similar to them why?you hear people all the time i got a rogue/whatever. sneak attack isnt all that good and anyone can do it if you hit the guy from behind.

like tobbin there just had to have a rogue thrown in.

90% of the time i play single class, usually pure cleric or druid.
I feel somehow i am "diluting" their power if, for example, she will never be a level 20 cleric. i want to reach those really high level spells and abilities of one class. i could be wrong tho, maybe they would not be diluting their power, maybe they become like a double-strength 20/20 character or something, but somehow it doesnt feel right. Even when i played BG1 i never dualed Imoen to mage.

Well, actually, I didn't need to have Rogue thrown in, but I was getting really frustrated with my henchman up and dying on me all the time, and then finding so many traps/locked chests. I figure this way, I have a Fighter/MU/Thief (sort of) all in one by equipping him how I did. He has the fighter capability with the 2 sided sword (exotic), can use magic items (scrolls, wands, etc - as I gave him this feat), and can open locks/disarm traps. Now, if the henchman bites the dust in the most awkward places, I can keep going for a bit. I understand how many people may not like playing a multi-player, but I tend to be a jack-of-all trades in real life. Why shouldn't that carry over to the realm of D&D? ;)

However, I am not adverse to multiclassing warrior/thief combos. Spellcasters are a bit different; you lose a LOT when you multiclass, since you only get 20 levels to split between your classes. That means no higher level spells (but if what you envision is an elvish "bladesinger" or human "spellsword," where you mix magic and swordplay, do it and enjoy).

The only class I would consider playing 1-20 without multiclassing is a Cleric.

Rogues, Rangers, Fighters, and Barbarians are going to be popular multiclass options because their power doesn't increase exponentially like a spellcasting class does. Taking a level of fighter, for example, really helps your character (especially a low level spellcaster) without hindering their progression too much (19 wizard instead of 20). However, a 19 fighter/1 wizard really won't do much for you.

I think because your party in NWN is all of two people, and one of them is going to be a specialist, multiclassing is kidn of implied in the game design. Plus there is nothing like putting that greatsword aside to launch a fireball and then charge into combat. HUZZAH :D

hmm I'm thinking of Multi classing my ranger... at lvl 19 to a wizard... lol; if only to get another familar, er animal compaion. hehe, it would be funny to see 2 panthers...

Deathcow 07-07-2002 02:08 AM

youre limited to only one summoned monster, so would assume youd be limited to one familiar/animal companion as well...but you can give it a try if you really want a lvl4 panther following you around
