is this a change from 2nd to 3rd edition? i started a wizard and he had and could equip a light crossbow
i thought they were restricted to slings and darts! |
I assume it is! Funny to see a wizard with a crossbow lol. I like the dual class system also. I dueled my fighter to thief at fifth level, then did two more fighter levels. Kind of handy to be able to pick a lock every once in awhile. Plus get sneak attacks. I'll probably do another couple levels in thief. Yes I do like 3rd edition!

You are no longer restricted from using specific weapons. Instead you will get a penalty for using weapons that are not “appropriate” to your class.
For example, a wizard can use a long sword, but may incur penalties, since he is not really proficient. Likewise, he can wear armor – but the chances of his spells failing will increase dramatically. Just about anything goes – but characters trying to be something they are not suited to do (eg wizard trying to fight in melee with a martial weapon) will be penalized accordingly. thanks for the information though</font>[/QUOTE]They actually have it separated into simple, martial, and exotic weapons...everyone has proficiency in simple weapons (well, because they are simple) like crossbows and clubs. Only the fighter classes start out with all martial proficiencies, and the other classes have class specific proficiencies. Give your mage a level in fighter and then the Still Spell metamagic feat and he can cast in armor to his hearts content, with no failure chance or proficiency penalties.
