I recently started plaing (again) W&W. I played this game few years back when it was released on however that was on Win98. Now I am trying it with WinXP but I
have a lot of trouble. When firs installed a week ago, the game crashed as soon as it started (this was fixed by formating the disk), then there was no right exit to Cemetary (fixed with recompiled townxxxx.avis). Now when I start the game and create the party and then when I leave the Inn, Gareth appears and in a second disappears (I still get a journal entry and the quest though). Can anybody help me with fixing this? Also, is there an option to delete the character (manual says the icon is Kill PC or somethin similar) however I cannot find the icon? |
Welcome to the board, bladesinger7x!!!
Read through the TECH TIPS to help get the game running correctly. It was never meant to run under XP but there are ways to fix that. I suspect that once you've followed the Tech Tips your problem with Gareth will be over. Is it one of your own characters that you are trying to remove?? That would be done in the inn. Has been ages since I've been in there - so I'm guessing that the command will be something like "remove character". Hope that helps - if not, there will be others with more knowledge on how to fix the techinical problems around soon. Wyv |
Another classical Tech Tips issue. That thread is really great.
Welcome to the board. I hope you get it sorted out. |
Welcome to the boards, bladesinger7x! May your arrows be swift, and your sword strike true.
To delete a character, go into the inn and remove him from the party. The delete character option then appears. As for the game, you may want apply the patch if you haven't already. And to set it to Win98 compatibility mode (as suggested in tech tips :D ). *edit* sorry about the mis-spelled name... corrected :D [ 07-19-2005, 10:28 PM: Message edited by: Bungleau ] |
Welcome to the boards!
But ive just wondered.. shouldnt it be better on xp? it is better than 98 an yeah.. [ 07-19-2005, 10:34 AM: Message edited by: burnzey boi ] |
The difference between 98 and XP is a technical one. 98 is a 16-bit OS (IIRC), and XP is 32-bit. SO what Win 98 compatibility mode does is tells windows to operate in 16 bit mode instead of 32-bit. That will allow older games to actually run, and not to throw strange BSOD and video glitch errors.
At least, that's the theory |
Well, I found the delete PC button (Yeeey) and also Gareth appeard when I start
the first game (install game -> make party -> start game). However if I want to start a new gaem, he will not appear. No problam anyway, as I saved my roster.dat reinstalled the game in planning to start playin in about an hour or so - first I have to put my newborn baby to sleep and than satisfie the wife ;) BR, Saso |
