I have played this game a number of times, but for some reason, I have never used these two classes.
I know most people don't like the ranger, which is why I am trying that class out. It's too bad the ranger supposedly sucks because I am a big fan of ranged combat. How about the bard? I know some of the instruments can be powerful, but is that all that is special about them? Thanks for the info! |
Welcome to the boards, Griefmaker! May your journeys in the Gael Serran bring you new and exciting travels and information
I just played a bard with my last game. The instruments are rather nice, but she's got a downside -- playing those instruments requires stamina, and when she's winded, she's really winded! And since there's no way to raise stamina besides waiting... well, that can be mighty inconvenient, lemmetellya ;) The bard also gets moon and fiend magic, IIRC, so that's nice. I haven't really played a ranger except to get fletchery :D Unfortunately, ranged combat doesn't play as strongly in W&W as it does in other games (BG, for example). At a distance in the Gael Serran, I just let loose with a little firestorm, and there's no real need for ranged combat, is there? :D |
Ah, thanks Bungleau!
The bard getting winded is a bit of a downside, but I'll see how it goes. I'll probably change her into the assassin later anyway. You are right about the ranged combat--who needs arrows when firestorm is around. It has been powerful in the beginning of the game though (plus watching the highland rogues run away with a few arrows in them boosts my party's morale--at least that is what I keep telling myself!). The problem I see with archery is if its power does not increase very much, it will be obsolete soon! Anyway, thanks again for the reply! |

Thanks bsftcs! I have been poking around on the board for some time, so it was definitely time to join!

Welcome to the board Grief... I haven't been here myself in so long as well...
Hum rangers I like for the Fletchery trait... because well ranged attacks aren't very strong in the game in my opinion... Bard... instruments are a good thought... but they are basically spells and actual spells can be more powerful... I dunno... but it would certainly make for an interesting game... I was actually thinking about a ninja and samurai party... have been watching too many anime's... |
