First of all: Welcome to the board, Calsiumus. Nice to see a fellow Scandinavian here.

In short: The storyline.

It is an epic adventure with the classical characters: The Evil One himself and the good ones who are trailing all the way through, their only hope being you, and finally winning in the end... If you are good enough, that is.

The characters' personalities are verging on charicature. But the epic itself is such a grand scale adventure (taking into account the time where the game was created) that it does not really matter. Only twice in the game one really encounters a dilemma concerning whether to play good or bad.

The interaction with other characters is a bit old-fashioned, but I like it. The mysteries are great, and the monsters pose some difficulty. At least in the opening stages of the game.

The inventory system is the classic slot system. There are some interesting weapons and other pieces of equipment. What is especially great is the ability to enchant end bless items.

The role ascension system is equally great. It is very flexible and there are the three special roles that you will only gain by chance. (If you do not let yourself spoil).

Also to pass a certain situation or place one does not always have to take the beaten way. There are lots of workarounds. (Without cheating).

There are also some great landscapes although the greaphics are a bit outdated.

All in all my advice is: Try the game, and I am sure you will like it. And do hang around this forum. It is the best. ;) Oh and one last thing: Do not despair if you find yourself unable to enter the crypt.

Welcome to the boards, Calsiumus. May you find enough adventure and excitement in the Gael Serran to last you three lifetimes.

At a high level, W&W is a mostly non-linear CRPG. It is somewhat linear because you do need to do specific things to go from one of the three game sections to the next, but even there, you can get creative.

What I like best is that there is no wrong way to play the game. You really can't screw the game up so badly that you can't complete, no matter what you do. That's why I'm completing a game as a solo warrior -- it seemed the hardest way to start the game off, and it was very challenging, to say the least.

It is similar to BG in some ways, and different in others. Not all who like BG like W&W. NPCs don't play the same role here that they do in BG, but quests are still very important (as they are in any good CRPG).

Fortunately, you can pick this game up quite inexpensively these days, although you may need to hunt it up a bit.

All in all, the game is quite fun -- not too challenging, but not too easy either. I've gone through it around half a dozen times, and this forum (which helped me through my first game) is one of the best things about the game. We have yet to be stumped when it comes to getting the game to run, and the atmosphere here, as it is elsewhere in Ironworks, is fun and inviting. There is no newbie-baiting here -- it's just not allowed.

So give the game a try and see what happens. You might just even like it

One thing to add about bugs...

If you are running XP or 2k...please read the tech thread... specifically about the vdub fix. That will save you an awful lot of frustration.

(Bungleau & bsftcs have already stated the pros/cons for the most part...it truly is a fabulous game!)
