I have defeated Scabbans evil apprentices & all the toad people are celebrating in the swamp, but Shinwiki will not acknowledge that I have completed that quest. I have tried to talk to him with all of my charactors but he still wont give me the spear.
I have had no trouble in previous games. I dont remember if I patched the game but I had no troubles with the toad in the tunnel problem so I probably have. Any ideas? |
This is quite a common bug, and it has happened to me a number of times. I don't even know whether the patch fixes it, but it might be worth reloading and trying it again (sorry - I know those guys gave me a bit of trouble when I first fought them). That is if you have a reload...
Does Shinwiki drop it when he dies? If so, it may be time to arrange for him to have a <cough> 'accident'. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful... Bungleau? Wyv? Radek? Anyone? Moiraine Sedai |
did u accept the quest in the 1st place? or did u make him open the trap door 1st and forgot to officially accept the quest from him (if there is any such thing...) ?

I think we've all had this one at some time or another.
Try going back to the area where you defeated the evil (did you have all your characters touch the totem?). Double check that everything there is clearn and then go back to Shinwiki and see if that will trigger it. I believe that the last time I had this problem that was all I needed to do to fix it. What keywords have you tried using with Shinwiki? It may be that you haven't hit upon the right word to trigger his acknowledgement. I don't believe you can get Shinwiki to open the trapdoor without accepting the quest but I admit my memory has gotten fuzzy on some details. Another option would be to load the game before doing this whole bit and doing it again. Or - you can skip it. The spear/reward are not worth all that much and are not critical to the rest of the game. Not the best choice but certainly one you can take if other attempts don't make this bit come out right. I just have same problem, it solved when I get back into Totem ground.
I didn't kill all evils I tought I did, but one was walking circle near totem. When you kill last evil, text will appear and speech that say something like: "When the last evil..." Then you know you have passed the mission. And like Wyvern remembered, only way to open hatch is to accept mission. When you come back into Shinwiki, make sure you have enought room in your packpage. If you don't have space to spear, it can be passed to another character that ain't speaking, or it can be dropped on the floor, or it just dissapear, like once happened to me. I just moved forward, it isn't so great spear anyway... |
In fact one can open the trapdoor oneself. To have Shinwiki do it one must say "Ukabu".
When all the Scabban's Evils are killed a message will appear telling that croaks and ribbits can be heard over the treetops. I have never encountered this bug before. But if this and the other posts do not help you, then it seems like you will have to resort to pickpocketing or arranging an accident as suggested. |
I haven't run into this in the past. As usual, the mystic mantra of "save early, save often, save before, save after" continues to hold true.
Try going back to the toadem grounds, touching the pole, and even resting. What the heck, it can't hurt. If you can't get through it though, like everyone has said, it's no great shakes. The spear isn't that good, the gold isn't that much, and the XP aren't that rare. |
I have experienced the problem once as well. I killed all Scabban guys and returned to Shinwiki. Shinwiki welcomed me and - nothing. Thus, I checked the guys whether they are well dead (they were dead more than enough) and returned to Shinwiki. Shinwiki welcomed me and - nothing. I gave up.
If you have experienced the same problem then you'd better give up as well. It must be a bug in the game. You cannot do more for Shinwiki than killing the Scabban guys. You are losing nothing by giving up: The Toad Village quest has been finished by jumping down to the village (it needs not killing the Scabban guys), the magik spear will not save your skin so that losing it is not a big problem, and the 700 gold is no considerable loss. Leaving the Shinwiki quest unfinished has no consequences later in the game. |

Are we sure whether he would drop the spear after this? Is it in his inventory? Could one possibly purchase it from him? I don't know. Moiraine Sedai |
I think it is one of those "quest" items that are only available after having completed a certain quest. - Like the assassin's dagger and Talrik's treasure map.
