At last, I've killed Sarevok - after 117 days game time and about a year real time. SPOILER warning if you haven't completed the game, read no further.

I actually found the final battle relatively straightforward (I had more of a problem with the Iron Throne mercenaries outside). As soon as I entered I had every one drink any useful potions and cast haste. I then took Imoen up the LHS avoiding the skull and deactivating traps along the way. She initiated the dialogue with Sarevok (interestingly he called her sister) and even got first blood with an arrow before legging it back to the rest of the party. It was then a case of keeping sarevok busy with suumoned animals while imoen and kivan peppered him with various magical arrows. Minsc went toe-to-toe with Angelo and sadly died due to the fact that Angelo kept on shooting him with arrows of detonation despite being within melee range. However in the process Angelo also blew himself up! The mage and Tazok never really seemed to get involved for some reason. I was a bit disapointed with the ending - you should at least be able to loot sarevoks corpse!!

Continue the saga in BG2 to find out why Sarevock said what he said. ;)

Sounds intriguing!!

I will when I've got some more time!

Congratulations and well done

I agree, both about the difficulty and looting the corpse. That was a shame as well. I'd have looked good in that dark armour

Tamoko has a set of dark armour you can plunder if you choose to fight her. Shame it appears so late in the game.

yah the battle was pretty ez, i had 5 wands of fireball, so i killed angelo and semaj while out of sight, tho it is cheap, they made it so that tazok cannot be fooled this way, once u fire a fireball, tazok attacks whether ure on the screen or not which i thought was pretty cool. had one problem tho, while angelo u said fired bow shots up close, he never attacked when i fought him, he ran after my character like he had a sword in his hand. was kinda gay, and semaj just got blasted with the fireballs, angelo took about 5 arrows after might fireworks display. and of course, sarevok was not hard either, i had 2 clerics who had 3 raise dead spells each and 1 lvl 1 summon animals and 1 lvl 2 summon animals, and a mage with 3 lvl 1 summon monsters, was cool to c em tho, i used em all at once, or as quick as i could before he tore thru em, and it made him look like a true juggernaut :D sarevok that is.

I played this battle almost exactly the same way, execpt I went up the right-hand side, and drew Tazok into battle (along with a couple of Battle Horror/Deathlord guys)without activating Sarevok. After killing them, and resting up outside, I sent my ranger up the left-hand side, initiating conversation with Sarevok, and luring him back to the entrance for the big fight. Sarevok and the mage pursued, but Angelo never came. I played this battle twice, and Angelo never came to the front of the temple. Of course, after I killed the big guy, I couldn't go after Angelo, since the game ended.

I've yet to engage everybody in this battle. It's a shame really, as both this fight and the one outside are as hard or easy as you want to make it. If you tend to sneak your thief ahead into any new area, you are rarely surprised by events. 'Course, that could spoil it somewhat, so the choice is yours.

I've since replayed the final battle to try and keep Minsc alive and it worked really well. The only HP I lost were when Imoen stumbled into a trap she was supposed to be detecting Doh! I managed to charm Angelo and he helped me take out sarevok. I'm quite proud of the fact I only needed to summon 1 set of monsters and Minsc got in the killing blow on Sarevok. In both battles however Tazok and Semaj played no part which was a bit disapointing (and a releif!)
