Gidday,

are level 7 Vine spells really any good and worth the effort to get them. They don't seem (haven't actually got them yet) to be as great as other spell group level 7 spells??

cheers

I don't think the Vine of Life spell was as good as it could have been. Let it save you once in a battle, and you're dust and bones on the next hit. Perhaps it might be nice when opening trapped chests, though (just thought of that one!).

As for whirling dervish, it's the vine mass-destruction spell. I guess they tried to think of an appropriate storm spell and couldn't come up with anything better than "leaf blower" or "pollen storm" (where your enemies suffered allergic reactions, potentially causing their deaths). It's nice, but it's directional, which means you have to aim it just right. And it bounces off walls, too, which means it can come back at you (IIRC).

All in all, they're not the most valuable spells for sure, but I'd still learn 'em while I can. Otherwise, I can't pick 'em up until I'm a zenmaster.

I have priest-->paladin-->monk-->ranger and now training my character to samurai...
Whirling Dervish is only good attack spell my character knows at this time...
Don't like that Force of Mind, it doesn't affect to most enemies I faced.
( mayby too low Sorcery skill... )
That's why I suggest to get it, if you don't have any other attack spells.

I don't think level 7 Vine spells are the best, either. More precisely, their effectiveness does not correspond to their level. In my experience, Whirling Dervish is the far weakest storm spell. As Bungleau has hinted, Vine of Life might be useful when you try to open a chest which is above your possibilities but... But at low levels when such chests do occur, you don't have the spell. At high levels, you have the spell but the are no more chests above your possibilities or your number of HP and resistances are enough high to make the spell unessential.
In the other words, acquiring level 7 Vine spells results in getting some mana points for Vine magic, that's all.
