I'm sure one of the local gurus will be along to tell you precisely what your problem is. At worst, though, copy the save games folder to another location, then reinstall. Then put the games back in the save games folder. ;)

Oh, and
WELCOME!!!

Go over to the Gen. Discussions board when you get a chance and let Cloudy's Welcome Wagon meet you. ;)

As for finding the save game folder, use Windows Explorer to go into your C:\ folder --> Program Files --> Black Isle --> Baldur's Gate folder. In there you should see a readily-identifiable folder (meaning "simply named") that will contain your save games. I'm not at home so I can't be more specific. Anywho, copy all the saved game files (1 for each save you've done) into some other folder (make a folder in My Documents, for instance - just name it "Backup BG Folder"). Then reinstall. After reinstallation, the saved game file will be empty (except for one pre-made save game if you've installed Tales of the Sword Coast), and you can simply copy+paste your files back in from the "My Documents" folder you made.

Sorry if I'm treating you like you know nothing about computers. Just trying to be a simple as possible.

There is probably and easier fix to this anyhow. Be patient if you can and others will be along.

What version of BG do you have? If it's the 3-disc combined BG/TotSC game, you are well-patched. But, if you've got an older version, you should check out getting the official patch. What version?
