I've got 3 of the Monkey Idols, but I can't get to the 4th one, in that prison cell. The stupid strategy guide just says "throw the levers in the correct sequence and drop a coin in the slot on the wall." I managed to access 4 of the cells by trying all different sequences of lever-actuating and coin-dropping, but the idol I need is in one of the 2 remaining cells. Also, can anyone tell me how to get to the Library? The guide just says "work your way through the temple" to it. Any help much appreciated.

um.......for the flip-the-levers-to-open-the-doors thingy, all i can say is, just flip it n insert it!!!! lolz :D :D :D
or you can look for the walkthrough in the Ironworks-W&W webpage where ALL the walkthroughs for all the areas are listed down.

Sig...I hope you got that guide for free.... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon13.gif

1. Try Levers...1, 3 and 4.

** There is an alternate methode...If your party is good at stacking and jumping...It is possible (but, not easy) to use the Library chairs, to reach Kreug's study.

2. To get to the library...On the 4-way wooden circle, take the 'West' passage. That will lead you to the room with the big, stone Naga and a brazier. Flip the levers and take the 'North' exit, to reach the library.

Welcome to the board, Sig Segorn!!!

That strategy guide is affectionately known as the Tome of Misinformation, probably one of the worst guides I've seen (barring the very first ones that were ever published).

Hope you have all the idols now!

Thanks to all for your timely and helpful replies. Being anxious to crack these conundrums, I found enough info to help me through these parts on Rick Volberding's "W&W Help & Assistance Page," but it's good to know I can get some input here, too. To Packrat---no, I paid for the "Tome of Many Omissions," which is why it would be nice if it were written better. Apparently, there are set lever combinations to open the doors in the prison, but the doors they open and which cell the idol's in are random. For example, Volberding says it's in the 5th cell and the guide says it's in the 4th one, but I found it in the 2nd one. It's also important to note that the reset position of the levers is down, not up, and that, besides potentially spending days trying one thing after another, you need a gold serpent coin for each attempt. Not my idea of fun. But I'm pretty happy right now. Got the 4th Monkey Idol, got into Kreug's study, got the quest items there, then went back to town, where my Ratling Rogue was made a Bard. Will be returning to the temple soon to perform the ritual and kill Xydussa and Elyssa. I'd feel a little better about that if I hadn't been bit in the ass by a cobra right after Kerah's statue said she'd watch over me. Oh well . . . what do you expect from a statue?

Packrat 09-01-2002 09:04 PM

Glad to hear, you solved that problem....But now I'm curious... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon5.gif.. Facing the coin slot and counting left to right, I've always found the idol in the 5th room. You say you found it in the 2nd room...is that also counting left to right?

BTW...if you're a treasure hound..you might want to check out one of the games forgotten/secret areas, when you go back to the temple. (There are 4 chests hidden here)
In the room where you found one of the monkey idols, (the one that is accessed through the kitchen) if you stand next to the chest and face south, when you look up...you'll see a wide brown strip. That is actually a ledge and the entance to the 'Belfrey'. If you stack crates next to the chest and jump up...you can get on top of the ledge. If you can't jump that high...you can bring up some of the crates from the next level down. (easiest way is to carry them and walk backwards onto the elevator)

I think this is another one of the 'Left over' areas that was never finished, when they rushed the game for release.

Hi, Packrat. We're talking about the same room. I was using the room numbers that are in the strategy guide diagram, which numbers them from left to right as you're looking at your automap, not as you're facing the coin slot. This is why people should be clear when they say something like "left to right," as there's more than one way you could mean that. Of course, this still doesn't jive up the guide's saying that the idol will be found in the 4th cell, which, the way you and, I guess, Volberding are counting, would be the 3rd cell. And, of course, which cell the idol's found in and which combinations open which doors is trivial compared to giving players some idea of how to open them. Thanks for the hot tip about the treasure in the belfry, but I don't think I'll bother with that. These characters are such klutzes compared to, say, Copper in Lands of Lore III. A couple questions, though . . . is that "walking backwards" a trick to get into tight places, like in that underwater tunnel just past the Unholy Filth? I've never been able to get in there after killing it, but I think I can just type in those replies when the time comes, right? And what's the deal with those ale kegs with the spigots on them in the Serpent Temple? I wasn't able to do anything with those. Just curious.

Welcome to the board Sig Segorn. It's a good place for answers.
I haven't found a use for the kegs & I'm on my 3rd game.
What I dont like about the cells is that all of the chests are too hard to open if you dont have any lockpicking skills.
